This lazy Sunday I'm watching "War of the World" It basically looks at war in the last century and how ideas of racial superiority help soldiers commit horrible deeds.

I recommend

Great documentary.

Part 10 was especially good. I hadn't realized how well documented Stalin's genocide was at the time. But of course, we had to paint the West as the saviors from Hitler's genocide. If Stalin's genocide were made well known, we'd look like hypocrites for siding with him.

As if it weren't clear enough that governments don't give a damn about humanity.

Stalin's type of genocide was different than the Nazi's. The allies had no choice but to use Stalin because of the manpower and because of how absolutely evil the Nazi's were, I don't think they could have won without Stalin.

Free Poland to this day still regards the Soviet Union as a savior from Hitler, even knowing and being critical of the fact that Stalin committed mass murder against Polish citizens. This is because Poland and the Polish still exist because of the Soviets. They would not have continued to exist under the Nazi's (they would have all been liquidated) and basically that is the reason.

what is little know is that Stalin was planning a pogram against the Jews in the early 50's fortunately he died.

It would have been better I think to have been realistic, considering how treacherous Stalin was, and to have attacked the completely exhausted Soviet Union and taken out the Red Army and then taken out Stalin like Patton wanted to. Stalin was just a plain evil person and they knew he couldn't be trusted. There was plenty of reasons to take him out regardless of how ruthless it may seem.

Just think, No Mao, No North Korea..........I don't know.

And how many lives exactly would need to be sacrificed in order to take out Stalin, even if victory could be guaranteed?

If Hitlers armies couldn't do it, do you think America could ? Soviets were at their height in 1945. Something like 6 million mobilized soldiers, 15 000 tanks, more than 30 000 planes.... great (maybe greatest) generals, the people solidly behind the state.

America had 2 or 3 atom bombs, not enough.

Yeah I'd second that, plus in the West there was a pool of respect, and even admiration, for the brutal hardships that had gone on on the Eastern Front and the tough circumstances the Red Army had fought and won through, I'm not sure domestic support would have been behind a continuation of an advance into the USSR. This may not be a perspective Americans would understand since their country was basically untouched by the war, but people in Europe were also knackered and the populations of the western European allies and liberated nations would have been suffering too much war fatigue in 1945.
