I was planning to take a flight to the U.S. that has me flying Air China to Beijing and then transferring to United Airlines.

My layover is 3 hrs and 5 minutes in Beijing.

Beijing airport says this might not be enough time to transfer, even though I will be arriving in the same terminal as United, and that I could miss my connecting flight.

Since the airport is telling me this, I'm guessing this happens quite frequently.

Anyone with experience transferring at the Beijing airport?

Problem is not so much the running between gates (easy to do in under 60 minutes including a stop at the transfer desk) as it is the on-time performance of Air China (running 2 hours late in not that uncommon - especially in winter).

I decided on American Airlines through Narita, instead.

It's not worth the risk to miss a connecting flight.

You have to go thru immigration to make a transfer at Beijing airport. So it takes a while. I hope your plane to Beijing arrives on time. I don't know........................ Personally I would avoid any flights to Beijing airport alltogether.
