I absolutely hate deskwarming. It makes me lethargic and bummed out, it's 700% pointless and I'm sick. I was thinking about just getting my stuff and leaving today- No one ever comes to check on me (The VP doesn't even come to work) aside from Co-T's who are sleeping all the time, anyway.
Has anyone ever done this? There doesn't seem to be a punishment structure set up. I've never had a conflict with my school before, but our new VP likes to throw his weight around. What's the worst that could happen if I just refused to sit here for 5 hours and left? |

What they should do in a situation like yours is deduct a days worth of vacation for every day you go home early. That should sort it. |

Let them. It's my last semester, I have infinite vacation days in the summer. |

Question: If you went home early, what would you do? Would you sit around, read a book, go on the computer, or watch TV?
If any of those are a yes, perhaps you should try those out at your desk. To be honest, I can't say I can relate to your mindset about the situation.
Best advice I can think of for your situation:
Learn how to pass the time and keep yourself entertained.
If you are sick, then take a sick day.
Is it really worth the risk of getting in trouble? To be honest, it is not worth it. |

They could fire you.
It's your job. You're not doing it.
Like the other poster said, they'll take a vacation day from you. However, you're supposed to give them notice that you're going to use a vacation day, so they could do more.
Why don't you do something productive? Learn a skill, study something, use the time. Something other than come on here and complain about it perhaps? |

It's my job? There's nothing to do. There is no job. My lessons are all completely planned for next semester. I have everything copied and sorted.
As for doing something productive, I have a 7 year old computer that barely boots. I'd rather be at home, bign comfortable.
It's astonishing to me how some of you dudes who have been here forever have lost every ounce of your common sense about this kind of stuff. There is literally no work to do, I'm one of 3 people in the building. How in God's name does that make a lick of sense? |

You are getting paid to be there, whether it makes sense to you or not. |

Oh good, another of the "Please understand" crowd. I hope this country sinks into the ocean. |

Your employer pays you for your time.
HOW they choose to use your time is up to them.
IF they decide to let you sit at your desk and do nothing then that is THEIR prerogative.
Failure to do your job (sit at your desk) is grounds for dismissal under the terms of your contract and Korean labor law. (without notice I might add).
In these times of budget shortfalls and with school boards looking for reasons to cut, are you prepared to be the next cut (and lose out on your airfare and severance at the same time?). Why would you give them the excuse?
Just my humble thoughts.

Here's the thing: I bust my butt all semester. I worked 29 hours a week with afterschool. I jump their stupid hoops, I teach alone when teachers are "too busy", I teach Co-T's who don't even know to say 'Hello'. I work like crazy to have fun, engaging lessons hours and hours outside of school.
So when it comes to little stuff like this and the school goes "lol no sit at your desk like a child for 4 hours because we said so" it's the last straw. |

Maybe I would do one of those things, but at least I'd be able to do it without wearing my gloves, coat, and boots while still shivering. |

Unless you are SuperTeacher, your lessons are not ready. There is always room for improvement. They are completely written out, so much so that ANYONE could pick it up and know exactly what you're doing and how to teach the class if you weren't there?
Why don't you read a book on teaching methodology? Why don't you study Korean? Why don't you write alternative lesson plans? Why don't you accept the fact that it's your job and sthu and do it? It's astonishing to me how some of you dudes who have been here for a few minutes have not an ounce of common sense about signing a contract and following rules. There is literally always something a person could be doing.
I was here on Friday, the only person in my building, one of 4 people in the whole school. I got a whole chapter of my Korean textbook studied and done, I wrote some lesson plans that I have no plan on teaching to my current students, I watched a couple of TV shows, I read a book on phonics, and I took an hour long lunch. Quit your whining. |

Ok, serious question. How many days of desk warming do you have, and how many would you be willing to give up in exchange for not getting paid? |

4 hours? You're complaining about 4 hours when most people are there for 8 hours? |

What is wrong with you? You love being Dave's resident REAL TALK INTERNET TOUGH GUY.
Also, no, my lessons are done. They all went really well, the kids tested fine and I had no issues with them. |
