I lost my dslr on new years eve and am heading on holidays soon. Don't want to be without a camera and looking to pick up something for around 200-300 thousand until I buy up a new slr. If anyone has picked up anything they are happy with for this price range could they recommend it here ?
Thanks in advance for any responses! |

Bummer! Sorry to hear that.
If you had a canon dslr, I'd go canon point and shoot. Or nikon > nikon. A lot of the interfaces and menus will be similar so there won't be as much of a learning curve. This will get you taking pictures faster. Especially if it is just to hold you over until you get a dslr again.
If you can find a 2009 model for sale it would probably help your money go further. A lot of features to look for in point and shoots are touch screens (not worth it imo), wider angle lenses (worth it), optical zoom, lens quality, lithium ion battery or AAs, size, optical image stabilization (very important), and if you are switching back from a dslr, you might want something with a nice variety of photo modes as you probably figured out how to use a camera more than just the auto mode. |

Not in your price range, but around 550k... I can really recommend the Samsung EX1. The lens is a f/1.8 lens with a 3x focal range of 24-72mm. That's a very good lens for a point and shoot. It might impress you enough to postpone your DSLR purchase a bit longer :p
Personally I think the DSLRs are doomed. The advantage of the viewfinder simply can't justify moving a mirror up and down each time you take a picture. But cameras with large lenses will of course still be better than compact cameras. |

Canon S95 hands down. It's image quality is near DSLR. Go read the reviews. The S95 is considered the best on the market. It's what I use when I don't want to carry around a heavy camera but still care about getting good images. |

Dunno about the Korean market. I got mine for about $300 in the U.S. a couple months ago. |

hi. I have a nice, top end point and shoot camera at home. I use it for amateur stuff and get some professional looking pics.
However, I bought my girlfriend a sony cybershot for christamas. Its amazing. it kicks the crap out of mine for functions and takes a really good picture. It aslo has almost the equivalent of -10 mm on the lense.
Considering it was 150,00 cheaper than mine - id still go for the sony even it were more expensive.
It cost 140,000 becasue it was a world cup model.
it has a good light metre/range of settings. iso is versatile. It has a facility to alter depth of field. It has a relativley wide angled lens (around 30/32 mm im not sure).
Ive used slrs for years too, but if you want something that goes in your pocket and takes a good pic, id recommend this. |

Sounds like you've got quite a few inputs by now.

You've got it backwards. DSLR's aren't going anywhere.
Don't get me wrong, I like the versatility of my pocket camera, but there's no comparison in the photo quality of a P&S to a DSLR.

I never said I thought the pocket camera (which is a camera with a tiny lens) would take over for the DSLR. I too believe that the cellphone camera will make the pocket camera obsolete. I simply think the moving lens part of the DSLR will become obsolete. As I mentioned, a camera with a good lens which can take in much light will always have a huge advantage over those with a tiny lens. However, I believe good digital cameras without a viewfinder will become more and more common, but these cameras wont be pocket cameras. |

I adored my Olympus 7010. I saw it on the weekend at emart for 230 000
I would buy it in a heartbeat again (i lost it) if I hadn't forked out money for a horrible Nikon (I was on holiday and desperate for a camera).
It has great functions (panoramic, super macro) and the usability is awesome |

I recently bought the Canon SX210 IS. It's highly rated by Consumer Reports and wasn't expensive- I paid $240. |
