My boyfriend will be returning to Korea tomorrow with the 30 day visa exempt entry (he's American). Will it be possible for him to extend/transfer this into the 90 day visitor's visa while in the country, or will he need to leave Korea, apply for a visitor's visa, and return?

Basically, he just needs to hang out in Korea until he receives his FBI CBC in late February/early March. He *could* do a visa run at the 30 day mark, but an extension to 90 days would be much much better (not to mention cheaper).

Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure Americans automatically get 90 days now. At least, I got 90 days last time I came in on a tourist visa, so unless something's changed...

He will get a 90 day visa waiver entry stamp (not 30). It was changed a couple years ago after Korea was admitted to the visa waiver program in the States.).

The 90 day visa waiver entry stamp CANNOT be extended.

That's great to know, since we really wanted to stay in Korea during Lunar New Year. Thanks for the replies
