Third week. Double checked in my email, I got emailed the tracking number for my contract January 19 2009. I received it a few days later.
Wasn't a late applicant or anything either, last minute is just how Korea rolls. |
That is unfortunate.
As an interesting addition, I understand that there are three EPIK arrival dates. I suppose that implies to be careful with buying a plane ticket early.
Speaking of arrivals, anyone have experience with arriving early to Korea? Just wondering if it is possible to show up a few days early to visit some friends. Flying in early may also circumvent any issues with poor weather conditions delaying a punctual arrival.
Anyways, can't wait for these NOAs and contracts to be pushed out. The wait is not my favorite thing in the world. |

As far as I'm aware, there are two arrival dates and three locations for orientation. The dates are the 17th for everything but Seoul and I think Seoul is the 18th. The locations are Seoul (for Seoul placements only), Busan and Jeonju, depending on your placement.
This is info from an EPIK employee, but seeing as EPIK changes things on the daily, I don't know how accurate this info is at this point. |

I arrived in Korea on the 15th Feb 2010, Orientation began on the 18th. There were no problems arriving early, it doesn't affect flight allowance or the visa. I just spend the time in Seoul sightseeing. Made my own way to orientation because the location was on the Seoul subway line, but I could've gone back to the airport for the free shuttle if I had wanted.
If you arrived more than 2 weeks early it would mean paying 60,000 won (?) to extend your visa at the end of your contract. But less than this and it wouldn't affect anything at all. |

The hardest part of the EPIK program is waiting for the response.
I am currently being offered a Management role at my current company which I am willing to forgo for this travel experience.
The toughest part is stalling your boss. I want to make sure I get an EPIK contract. |

| In the Spring 2010 intake, my recruiter got my NOA on Jan 20 and then FedExed to me and I got it on Jan 24. Third week is the average time everyone got their NOA, for what I've heard, assuming you applied on time sometime between Oct 1 - Dec 15. |
