hey i'm going on a Visa run and just wondering the best way to get a record check from Canada since i'm not in the country to request one personally from our local police branch. They've directed me to the RCMP website but it's looking complicated like i need finger prints done and stuff....I got my last record check for this hagwon i work at done last February so i'm assuming i'll need to get another one.
Anyone do this yet?

IF you need one done you need to jump through he hoops to get the RCMP one done (prints, money order, 4-month wait.)

I did both ways to be safe.
1) I mailed family back in Canada a letter authorizing them to act on my behalf to request a CRC and they took that letter to the local RCMP detachment and got it in two days (police said pick it up the next day, had to wait overnight), mailed it to me express and I had it less than two weeks after I started the process!
2) I downloaded the RCMP form, filled it out and took it to a police station here in Korea and got fingerprints done, then mailed it to Ottawa, expecting it to take months but surprisingly it came back just over three weeks later! under a month (this was early 2008).
I submitted 1 and it was enough so when 2 came I didn't have to use it, but it was insurance, just in case. Both ways were quite easy, just bureaucracy and I felt a bit silly to have stressed over it. But then we all have heard horror stories and imagine the worst. |

wow...that's hopeful...the post before had me stressing abit about wait times. I didn't know i could authorize my family to do the check...i called my local detachment back home and they told me i had to do it in person...maybe the girl was wrong. Either way i'll be getting on this asap.
thanks =) |
