I know there some guys here that will defend the military, but in an almost exclusively-male institution strongly populated by redneck meat-head types, things like this are bound to happen. That's why I find it surprising that gay soldiers would want to be open about their sexuality.

Better for long term prospects than many things, considering the education benefits that go with military service. No I was just curious? It is always an option for many. In the U.S. it has traditionally been the place where African-Americans could get on the middle class ladder. Also for poor whites. Not for everybody thats for sure.

Arizona Rep Giffords shot, 6 killed, including judge, 9-year-old girl

During his campaign effort to unseat Giffords in November, Republican challenger Jesse Kelly held fundraisers where he urged supporters to help remove Giffords from office by joining him to shoot a fully loaded M-16 rifle. Kelly is a former Marine who served in Iraq and was pictured on his website in military gear holding his automatic weapon and promoting the event.

An Arizona native finds relevance between the actions of a former Marine and those of a similar mindset, in the shooting incident.

Quote:

...10 months ago, in the midst of a tough re-election campaign, Representative Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona Democrat who was gunned down on Saturday, warned that she had been receiving violent threats. Shortly after she voted for Obama's healthcare reform bill, a window in one of her Arizona offices was smashed.

"Our office corner has really become an area where the Tea party movement congregates and the rhetoric is really heated. Not just the calls but the e-mails, the slurs," Giffords said at the time.

A local sheriff in southern Arizona does not believe the shooting occurred in a vacuum.

"When the rhetoric about hatred, about mistrust of government, about paranoia of how government operates, tries to inflame the public on a daily basis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it has an impact on people especially who are unbalanced personalities," said Pima County sheriff Clarence Dupnik.

when i had a tv here 3 years ago, i'd watch the afn network a lot and saw so many commercials about rape.

then my friends were being hit on by these military dudes so they joined our group. i asked them about all those commercials and if it's really such a big problem. the guy said there are so many fat ugly chics in the army that they have sex with pretty much anyone and sometimes they'll accuse guys of rape. :/
