Dateline Seoul, South Korea:

A private citizens bill was tabled today which, if passed, will require the husbands of Korean citizens who wish to obtain or maintain Spousal Visa Status to be required to complete a period of Public Service, simular to the maditory military service reqired of all able bodied Korean males aged 18 - 25.

The spokeswoman for the citizens group, Mrs. Kim Hee Hee stated that the intent of the bill was to insure that foreign men, married to Korean women, who intend to be long term residence of Korea must be required to preform the same civil duties as Korean men. Mrs. Kim also stated that the bill would not require foreign spouces to perform military service but rather to serve the public good in other ways; such as a posting as an English Instructor at an Elementary Schools in a rural area.

Korean males aged 18 - 25 are required to spend upto 2 1/2 years preforming public service, usually but not exclusively in the Korean Military. Korean males maybe required to serve in the National Guard (Riot/Combat Police), Auxillary Traffic Police or even as circus acrobats.

Mrs. Kim said: "If foreign men want to have the same rights and status as Korean men, they should be required to give of their time in the same way. They owe it to their wives and their children, who are Korean"

Pretty good story IMO.

ALMOST believable...except the part about us wanting to be equal to Korean men...yet no mention of ditching the crappy visa BS that is still in place.
