So how does she feel when you get together with YOUR childhood/lifetime friends, and she has nothing in common with them, and feels out of her element because she can't relate to any of it? |

My girlfriend's friends love me and I love them. They are fun, some of them a language barrier is a tough obstacle...but with me learning Korean it isn't bad. In fact my favorite one of her friends and I can't communicate well verbally, but her and I find other ways. I'm just a super cool dude I guess... |

Not that there's anything wrong with them. I wouldn't know other than what is said on here. I just refuse to be a foreigner that comes over to asia and marries an asian and has kids with someone who barely has anything in common with them, but forces themselves to believe it by finding things that she finds interesting, interesting too, but inevitably leading a miserable life because their English isn't even good enough to have any kind of in depth conversation, discussion or argument, but despite lack of contempt, it is tolerable compared to whatever it was they were running away from in the first place when really you've just lost sight of it, and end up saying things like 'i hate this country, the people, the food, the culture, the music: if it wasn't for my girlfriend/wife - I'd be out of here like a needle in a haystack'.
Or whatever. |
Exactly, my friend. |

I didn't come to Asia for that in the first place. Good for you. I only date people I can communicate with, whether in English or Korean or Japanese. No sense dating/marrying someone you have nothing in common with except sex. |

What can I say? I am now sorry I asked.
Wow Gloubtron, that was a needlessly idiotic rant based on allkinds of crap stereotype.

Fine, just an assumption that you are in Korea that you met a Korean woman. My fault for making that assumption.

That is probably one of the most stupidest things I have ever read on here and that is going someplace when I say that.
I married an Asian woman and I have plenty in common with her, what we have in common is our personalities are similar, does she like boxing and lifting weights? No. Do I like what she likes, she likes horror films and playing volleyball - do I have to be a volleyball fan and love horror films to be compatible? I didn't have much in common with a lot of girls I have dated but it didn't mean we weren't compatible.
Where does the 'miserable life' come into it? So I suppose all white people who marry other white people have happy stimulating lives don't they? I suppose you are better than me and the rest of us because you opted to date someone from Canada and thus you can share common cultural and linguistical references and thus life is more interesting, and of course you are nowhere near as shallow as someone like me by default as you refuse to date Asian women who can never be compatible nor keep up with an interesting genius like you. Because let's face it, you don't want to be intellectually comprimised by some thick Asian bint who will eventually make your life miserable.
As for running away - my degree is linguistics and TEFL, which means I planned to teach English before I came here. What is your degree in? Did you plan to teach English before or after your crummy two bob degree was unable to get you your crummy two bob sales job in blighty? So who is running away?
I married my Asian wife because I was living and working on this continent. She was the first woman of this ethnicity I have ever dated. There is no fetish on my part, no control issues and I can cook, clean and iron by myself thank you very much.
Next time you come out with your offensive, stereotypical claptrap - think about what I typed. |

Did I mention you, at all? or even any stereotype?
I was unaware. I was just talking about a specific result I personally didn't want to become.
People gotta find anger in everthing, huh? Weirdo. |

As I recall, you said in other thread that you did your degree so you could get out of the UK. Seems like Globutron, if he is indeed running away, isn't the only one. |

You were certainly referring to me and a lot of men on this forum thats for sure. The whole post was one one big stereotype, do you know what the word 'stereotype' means you genius? Why don't you discuss it with your extra intelligent Canadian girlfriend over cappuccino tonight? Silly little boy. |

There is a difference between me and you and Gloubtron isn't there? I made a conscious decision to work around the world and teach thus took the relevant degree. I am running away from anything? I would say not, I would say I am doing what I am trained to do which is to teach English abroad. I am not doing it nor am I here because the economy has tanked and my peso worthless degree can't get me sod all back home.
You and Gloubtron - you took degrees that having nothing to do with ESL or education and now are here because you couldn't find work back home? Now thats running away because of having zero alternatives if you ask me. |

Whats wrong with running away?
Also, I have very little respect for someone who went to college to teach ESL. I wouldnt mind teaching for a while. However, it would be teaching something I cared about, trying to get others to care about it - most likely porn. I love english, let me spread it with my wisdom blah blah blah. And if you wanted to teach ESL for a life you must be kidding yourself that you NEVER thought about the girls and getting involved with a foreign girl. I know too many overweight absolute wankers who show off their korean girlfriends/wives that its ridiculous.
OP- Tough situation but just tell her the truth. Either that of just be tepid about hanging out with them and act uncomfortable. Maybe she will stop inviting you. |

I must have gotten lucky. I was just picturing what I thought was my own thought creation. Seriously.
I'm not about to go into my life story, justifying why I'm here, but the economy had no effect on me, really..
Oh and I took a degree which will lead me in theory to teaching classical music composition. A bit of teaching experience couldn't do any harm, eh?
But yes, we're all running away. That is the stereotype, after all. Apparently. |

Double post.
Seriously guys, I'm just trolling.
It's what I do and have basically always done here on this forum, other than that evolution thread. Even then I was often being unnecessarily assholish.
I suppose it's pseudo trolling. I still discuss and give information but I like to irritate people at the same time.
It's just too easy here! |

Do you little respect for someone who went to teach ESL? Who gives a shit what you think? Your two bob thoughts from your two watt brain has no relevance on the fact that someone who took ESL would one day be teaching it somewhere other than their home country. Not running away at all. The reasons why you are in Korea are totally different from my reasons.
Nope, never thought about getting a woman with it at all, it just seemed interesting and useful and that is how it turned out to be as I have never been unemployed since graduation. Most of my class were females. True dat.
Stick to the porn fella, it is giving your arm a good workout if nothing else. |
