Given the option, would you take unpaid leave in lieu of coming in just to desk warm? |
Yes, every single time! |

Simple question(I think). Many of us complain about desk-warming, but if you were given the option of staying home on desk warming days, with the condition that those days would be considered unpaid leave, would you take them up on it?
Of course, feel free to combine or add other options in your comments. |

Why would you go to Korea to not get paid? That's a real head scratcher.
Anyway, you could look at it as getting paid to talk on the telephone since you're calling the whambulance.
Of course I'm jesting, but why isn't the time seen as work for you to plan lessons? Make better lessons. Is it pointless to try and make better lessons? I guess it could be given the obstacles you probably face at a public school in Korea w/ so many students and other obvious shortcomings.
Oh well. |

Perhaps, but there is already an entire thread devoted to the sense of it. Some think they should get the time off and be paid. |

I have talked to a couple of teachers who did get unpaid time off, both for reasons involving taking long vacation trips.
They had worked in Korea long enough to save enough to not need to be paid for a month or so.
But consequently neither of them were renewed.
If given the option, I would have opted for unpaid leave but my co-teachers/ schools couldn't seem to comprehend what I was asking. |

I get paid to spend 8 hours a day working on M.A. work, studying Korean, watching T.V. all in the comfort of my warm office that I don't pay to heat. |

I chose a few days here and there. For the most part, it's easy enough to come in. I live a quick bike ride away in the summer, and an even quicker taxi ride away in the winter. |

I can't really believe any of the people who chose "No, but I don't mind it". Choosing that option over the other one (the "No, but I don't like it") is basically stating that you would rather desk warm than not.
While it's true I don't mind it, I certainly do not like it and given the choice would rather stay home and be paid. I am more productive at home anyway, it's where I do all of my work. If the school gave me a functioning computer with an English OS/programs I might be able to do some work. |

I guess I was just looking for intensity of feeling, and did not know how to word it any better.

Why not have it as an option that teachers could utilize sometimes if they choose or not if they decide?
Why does it have to be all or nothing? |
It's not all or nothing-that is what the second option is for. |

I also don't understand why the first choice had to be "every single time"?

Did you miss the choice that said "Yes, maybe a few days here and there"? |
