If you were born in Canada, why would a white person speak better English than you?
I was born in Pakistan and lived there until I was 8. I've had some problems getting a job as a dark-skinned male, but they're mostly humourous anecdotes from places I wouldn't have wanted to work at anyway. Incidentally, two of them were SLP hagwons (Bupyeong, Songpa). |

Just saying that there is an assumption most people make when they see someone with East Asian features.
Also, I know some people who are first generation Chinese-Canadians that spend all their time speaking Cantonese and have pretty horrid English.

So not really a huge issue? |

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm ethnically Chinese and look the part. I'm pretty much "whitewashed" though (born and raised in Canada, never learned Chinese, etc).
However, I would like to think that my English ability is better than lots of white people I know.
Would I have a hard time landing a hakwon job? |
