An Americano is espresso and water and it's not Konglish, it's Italian and the story is that when American soldiers were stationed in Italy during WWII, the espresso there was too strong for them, so the baristas would water it down and call it an Americano.
To me, the Americano is similar to drip coffee, maybe even a little less flavorful. Unfortunately, not many coffee shops in Korea have drip coffee and if they do, they charge just as much for it as for an Americano. Back home, I'll drink regular drip coffee or sometimes a red eye which is coffee with a shot of espresso dropped in. If I asked for that here, they wouldn't know what I was talking about. |

Where I'm from we call that a "mondo." I would order it most places by asking for an Americano but with drip coffee instead of water. Incidentally, I was turned onto them by the Korean owners of a doughnut shop near my old work. |

In 2009 I was drinking on average 6-8 cups of coffee every day. After a while it really did start to affect my sleeping. It's kinds like taking sleeping tablets.......and then can't sleep (just in a semi conscious daze).
For the past year I have been drinking on average 0-1 cups of coffee per day. |

coffee is very bad for your health.
The worst thing is you have become someone who associates adrenaline highs as a normal way of being.
Our body is not there to be pushed and kept in an intense state all the time.
Learn to run on normal energy rather than being addicted to intense states, otherwise your body will be very stiff when you get around 40 years old.
Coffee should be had socially about 1 time a week at most otherwise its just another drug and you are da junkie. |

Definitely one in the morning.
Maybe another in the mid-morning, or another hot bevvy.
Usually one to keep me up after lunch.
Usually another after work.
Maybe one after dinner, or a tea or some other hot beverage.
I have definitely caught myself drinking coffee (almost always black) like it was water. I don't smoke, drink much, eat healthy and exercise regularly so it's my one regular indulgence. |

| None. If Hadrian's Wall could be built without turning to coffee I can't see why people in developed world doing non-physically active work "need" to have coffee to get through the day, apart from the fact that they are mentally and physically weak, loathsome and pathetic and will be the first to die once the human race comes under any type of attack. |

I used to need 3-4 cups per day, until I decided that being a caffeine addict was a terrible thing. Waking up even after 7-8 hours of sleep still grasping for a cup of coffee, getting mood swings, etc. Bad.
Now I've cut down to 2, sometimes 1 if it's something stronger w espresso |

You love being judgemental don't you? And I guess all those studies that show a cup or two of coffee per day is good for you are wrong huh? We should just go with what you're saying? Sure. |

I'm a man and I love coffee. To Wit:

A bit of a tangent, but for some reason this article reminded me of Mel Brooks' History of the World, Part 1. "It's good to be the king." |

There are studies out there that backup just about anything. Working with people that are stressed and have sleep disorders has made the efeects of coffee obvious to me.
I didnt judge anybody and who the f cares if I did.
It is sick to go back to north america and see everyone walking around with huge frigging cups of coffee.
Your nervous system is not meant to be a over stimulated state over and over again.
People get addicted to being over stimulated
The correct action for feeling tired and low energy is rest and lifestyle changes not over stimulating your system to pretend you are ok.
I just write here to say coffee is a drug and people seam to think it is healthy which is bs.
Who cares if coffee wards of one type of cancer while screwing up so many other functions in your body.
Just look at the dried out faces of people who have been coffee drinkers for years.
I see the bad results of coffee every day and also see the positive changes when people come off the stuff.
Don't fool yourself if you need it to get by you have a problem just like any other druggie.

Can the health benefits of coffee be obtained by drinking decaf? Caffeinated coffee really can interfere with a good night's sleep:
| Quote: |
On average, subjects slept 336 minutes per night after drinking caffeinated coffee.
This compares to 415 minutes after decaffeinated coffee.
They took half an hour to drop off to sleep, which is twice as long as usual.
They also moved around in bed twice as much

Even a morning dose of caffeine can significantly interfere with sleep:
| Quote: |
| To further investigate the role of adenosine in sleep regulation we administered 200 mg of caffeine at 07.10 h and analyzed the sleep stages and EEG power spectra during the subsequent night in nine healthy men. Caffeine levels in saliva decreased from a maximum of 17 mumol/l one hour after intake, to 3 mumol/l immediately prior to the sleep episode starting at 23.00 h. Compared to placebo, sleep efficiency and total sleep time were significantly reduced. |

It wasnt by chance. Sometimes I am and sometimes I am not. My number one activity is travelling with work thrown in somewhere between trips. |
