For ill or for good, won is gaining strength fast
Kumho Tires looks at a 1.2 billion won ($1 million) annual loss when the Korean won appreciates by 10 won against the U.S. dollar. "We have some room left to buffer the appreciation of the won in export negotiations with buyers," said Jeong Gyeong-ha, vice manager at Hyun Yang, which exports automobile compartments. "But if the exchange rate against the U.S. dollar falls below 1,100 won per dollar, we will lose money."

One finance ministry official said Japan was recovering nicely, but Korea was stuck in an exports-only recovery.

How about $1 is worth 900 won?
Remember 1996 through 1998.

On May 12, 1998, $1 was worth 1,383 won.

On March 27, 2002, $1 was worth 1,326 won
On March 31, 2004, $1 was worth 1,146 won

Canadian dollars?

I wonder why?

How about Hong Kong dollars, Australian dollars, Bahamas dollars, Fiji dollars, New Zealand dollars, Singapore dollars, Taiwan new dollars, or Trinidad and Tobago dollars.

Perhaps we could use the Euro and the Canadian dollar and cover most of the G8.

It's obvious RR just posts stories and does no research of his own. Japan has been mired in recession since the early 1990s and refuses to make the necessary structural changes to jumpstart its sluggish economy.

Most forecasts have Korea growing at a 5.7%-6.0% clip for 2004 despite the North Korean threat and political unrest. Korea's been through worse and recovered, and I've seen it.

RR, please, seek professional help.
