For ill or for good, won is gaining strength fast
Kumho Tires looks at a 1.2 billion won ($1 million) annual loss when the Korean won appreciates by 10 won against the U.S. dollar. "We have some room left to buffer the appreciation of the won in export negotiations with buyers," said Jeong Gyeong-ha, vice manager at Hyun Yang, which exports automobile compartments. "But if the exchange rate against the U.S. dollar falls below 1,100 won per dollar, we will lose money."

One finance ministry official said Japan was recovering nicely, but Korea was stuck in an exports-only recovery.
