So they WILL get the 300k won as part of their contract.

I retract my statement and lower my head in shame.

Lol! But it's good to point out any potential pitfalls. Hagwons are notorious for their occasional shabby treatment of teachers. No argument there!

yeah the restrictions are tight on 22kg with most carriers.... although I am going to say I never got caught taking sneaking 37kg back recently from Taipei on China Airlines...

My carry on luggage was more than what I check in and didnt get caught. I gave 3 bags to gf while I went to the counter with my suitcase and laptop only. Then just went back to her and took them through customs. I have heard this hasnt worked for everyone but it worked for me.

Oh and if you have those strong duty free bags put heaps of stuff in them and carry them cause they aint going to tell you off for those, because they are duty free bags.

and yeah DONT FLY those cheaps flights you found. Seoul is a good distance away Aus and for $100 extra you get a decent flight. Your Hagwon will pay you back right anyway?

Taipei is a good city to fly into for some nice cheap food and top service rest stops before you go into Korea

Thanks for the info. I never thought of flying via Taipei.

I had a look last night and the cheapest flight that I found were with China Eastern and Hainan Airlines. After reading reviews about the airlines I decided that it would be safer to swim to Seoul than fly with them.

I was on the Phone with Qantas last night to see if I can use my points. They can get me to Seoul from Adelaide with Cathay Pacific. The only problem is that they only allow 23Kg in checked baggage. Every kilo after that will cost me $35.00.

23 KILOS IS NOTHING. HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO FIT EVERYTHING WITHIN THAT LIMIT????????????????????????

First gig, huh?

Take the essentials and have the rest shipped over via family/friends.

Any Australians done any research on the cheapest way to ship items from Oz to Korea.

I'd be interested in knowing about cheap shipping from Oz to Korea, too.

Australia Post is the cheapest I found, and that was about $300 for 20kgs.

I go there every 6 months to visit my wife. A bit more tricky for me though, as she lives in Darwin; no competition. Until recently, the only international flights there were from Singapore and Bali with Jetstar, which is expensive (though way better than Qunatas; how does that company stay in business?). As of January however, AirAsia.com is flying into Darwin from Bali as well, and also has flights from Incheon to Bali via Kuala Lumpur. The Darwin flight is a night flight as is the Incheon flight, so I got a day at the beach in Sanur before I get to Darwin. Surely a plus over expensive Singapore.

I went the wimpy way this time and booked all legs of the flights with the extra leg room seats. I also picked out my inflight meals already too, and it's nice to have a choice. This will be a good flight. I had to pay for 15kg of luggage as well.

All told for $940 AUD. I'm pleased.

Shipping things by ground...Australia Post. Every once and a while my wife ships my a box of chicken salt and things like that that I have grown to enjoy. I am always shocked at how little it is for her to ship things (over the years I have been sent small boxes and large ones). Not as cheap as Korea Post, but way cheaper than Canada Post.

Canada Post sucks.

Canada Post sucks.

Canada Post sucks.

Can't say it enough. Bloody rip-off artists.
