So I managed to lose my key, drunk, last night and was forced to stay at a friends. Anyway I got here this morning and my apartment blocks owner reluctantly gave me a spare suggesting I should copy it as soon as possible (through hand gestures, we share no common language). Anyway, I have no idea where to copy a key in Seoul... I'm in daerim... Can anybody help, do you know of a place that does it?

Look for a place that says 열쇠 (pronounced roughly "yuhl-say"). Most neighborhoods have a few places like this, they're often in shops that also do stamps (도장), printing/copies (인쇄, 복사), or just sell hardware.

I don't know the Daerim area, but I hope this helps.

In my first year, I lost the keys to my apartment. I was out with my girlfriend and we managed to stay over at a co-workers place. Anyway, the next day we went back to my place when my GF noticed an old sticker on the door which offered a key cutting/door unlocking service. Anyway, about 30 minutes later a dude on a scooter rocked up and cut me a key for my door right there and then - no questions, no ID. I was completely gobsmacked that this was even possible!
Other than that, I find that most of the shoe cleaning huts outside subway stations cut keys too......

Home Plus and E-mart usually have a place that cuts keys (as well as makes stamps, engraves stuff, etc.)

they do it in the small little booths on the sidewalk, it's like a tiny little hut and they shine shoes there. and there should be a yellowish pic of a shoe. anyway, those guys do key copies.

you're in Daerim?

I'm sure there are many many other places, but I can tell you for sure that the Homeplus by Sindorim station (exit 1) has a key copying stand in the lobby.

In relation to these key cutting places, do they cut the 4 sided officetel keys?

Most keys in the western world are the regular flat 2 dimensional keys (e.g. Yale keys). But here in Korea, my officetel has a 4 sided key (with small holes in each side). I tried to find a picture on the web and post it here to aid my description, but i failed. Do they also cut that kind of key?

Those keys are hard to copy, and perhaps 6,000 won. Not all of those little hut/shoe shops make them.
This may be a cop out, but have some one in school write a note in Korean. Something easy like, "I am sorry I can not find out where to copy the key. Can I just pay you for this one?" Thank you.

The four sided keys are easy to copy, as long as you have the machine for it. Even the little shoe hut guys should be able to help you out with it.

I had some 4-sided keys done for about 3 or 4,000 won apiece at one of those shoe kiosks.
