|
|
I currently work at an afterschool program. My contract says it ends on February 28th but also says I will finish "on the last day of the winter program sometime around the end of February."
My alien card says my visa expires on Feb 28th.
I have been offered a job that starts on March 1st. I have the new contract and all the documents, related to my new employer, that I need to take to immigration.
My current employer is getting me a letter of release but it will be dated around March 3rd, which is when the winter program ends.
As my visa has legally ended on the 28th of February do i need a letter of release? |

If you want to transfer = yes.
If you want a new visa = no.
Make sure you are NOT in Korea AFTER your ARC expires without an extension or you will be making your visa runs to your home country instead of Japan.

If I want a new visa do i still have to do the visa run to Japan? Also will immi care that the dates don't match up exactly?
I'm desperate to speak to someone from immigration couldn't get through on the phone today. I will try the website too. |

New visa = new documents and visa run to Japan.
Transfer - no visa run as long as the dates are close (make you extend your ARC when you transfer to the new employer).
Transfers are allowed as long as the contracts are concurrent (or close to it).

I think i'll get the letter of release and take all the documents i have to Incheon immigration asap. Hopefully they will be able to transfer my visa. If there are any problems I hope I will have enough time to sort it out.
Ttompatz - thanks for all your help. I have been phoning 1345 all day and trying to find some info on the immi website. A couple of years ago I lost a sweet marketing job because of E7 visa complications, so this situation is stressing me out. |

=LOR
=ARC
=Passport
=New contract
=New letter of guarantee (sponsorship)
=(copy of) New school business registration
=Application (check both boxes at the top of the page (change of employer and extension of status of sojourn)
=Fees (60k won for a transfer), 30k won for the extension for an additional year.
They typically only allow a transfer during the last few days of employment (since you are changing your place of employment AND your sponsor).

I have all the documents apart from the LOR. When i have them all I will go to Incheon immi and ask them what my next step should be. I wish there was an easier way to get in touch with them. |
