| Most people will tell you to avoid Pattaya and they'd be right. |
Except Koreans all seem to think it's some kind of beach paradise that you have to go to, girls included. My ex insisted on spending a night there when we were in Thailand, even though (having been to Thailand before) I insisted it was a terrible, terrible idea. The one positive? At least I can say it's disgusting from personal experience now. |

I can't speak for Thailand specifically, but I have some advice on traveling alone as a concept.
It actually kicks ass! You get to make your own schedule, and do exactly what you want to do. No trying to fit other peoples needs in, or scheduling meet ups or any of that. It's really freeing and I highly recommend it at least for a few days.
The best thing to do if you're staying in a hostel or similar accommodation is to make a friend or two there to hang out with at night, but do your own thing during the day. That way if you don't find your travel soulmate (which can be really hard) you still can enjoy your trip and have somebody to trade stories and drinks with. It helps stave off the loneliness while still preserving the freedom of being alone.
Anyways that's my take on it, I'm a pretty independent person so this might not apply as much to you but I really do urge you to try going it alone. It can be scary but in the end you have a great personal experience on top of your travels. |

I am married and my wife has given me her blessing to backpack travel alone sometime in the future. I still want to do it.
I enjoy having my family there too but I prefer traveling alone. I am a budget traveler who enjoys going off the path. My wife does not. |

hey,
during my trip to laos, thailand, and malaysia this month, i'm planning on using Couchsurfing, both to help save on accommodation costs and get to know the place from a resident's pov.
but if you're still looking for travel buddies, i'll probably be down to hang/PM me (i've no real itinerary except laos for the first week or so that i'm in SE asia) |

Thailand??!! NO NO NO AND ANOTHER NO!!
I will not go into the horrible details of what did/could have happpened while on that trip. We were super super lucky, as we could have gone to jail in Thailand.
In short,. We ended up having a really bad emergency and were ordered to leave thailand immediatly. But since there were no immediate flights out ( it was busy season and everything was booked and there is NO international jursication for Americans'. we ended up contacting American Embessay Rep in Bangkok, who ended up calling the state-side authorties' and THEY FINALLY helped us get a flight out.
This was after spending 3 nights at the Tourist Police Station in Pucket ( they had found us stranded and offered us their place) and 4 nights at the Bangkok Airport.
BTW, Iam a single female, who has many travel expreinces'
EVERYWHERE. But,that by far, was the worst travel experience I have every had!!!!!!All I remember is feeling like we had seen the better part of hell.

| You can't post that rant without going into details about what actually happened....Loads of people go to Thailand and don't have whatever nightmare experience you're on about. |

If you were ordered to leave the country, I'm going to assume you did something wrong. |
