Report: Chile recognizes independent Palestinian state

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera's announcement preceded by official recognition of Palestine by Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay.

By Haaretz Service

Earlier this month, Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina recognized Palestine as an independent state within its borders prior to 1967, in decisions that the United States and Israel slammed as counterproductive and damaging.

Chile?? They're hardly one to talk about democracy.

They really should stop opressing their native people and confiscating their land ...before they start pointing the finger at others.

The Mapuche are still fighting for recognition, now against Chiles two biggest forestry companies, government obduracy, and an anti-terrorist law drafted by the Pinochet regime

Ahh... the great Mapuche who successfully fended off two great empires (the Incas and the Spanish) only to eventually succumb to the colonial upstarts Chile and Argentina... or maybe, they will get the last word eventually.

I am glad someone is willing to stand up to the 'Chosen people'.

I wish Canada would do the same.

I hear you killed off most of the natives. Maybe you should give back the land you stole.

When you've murdered 99% of them and swamped their country with whiteys, its hardly any risk to you to give voting rights to the remaining handful.
Throw in a doggy bag for them if it makes you feel better. Squatting on their land.

Being opposed to Israel is not the same thing as being opposed to the Jewish people.

Well, being opposed to the actions of Israel isn't the same as being opposed to the Jewish people. Being opposed to the concept of Israel on the other hand is fairly anti-Jewish. I assume you meant the former, but it's an important distinction to make.

Israel recognizes Mapuche Republic
Jan 20- Israel has formally recognized the Mapuche Republic, an area covering a large swathe of Chile. Military aid has been sent to Mapuche freedom fighters.
The move came after several mapuche suicide bombings aimed at civilians, involving infants strapped with bombs, which garnered global support.
The Chilean government has lodged a formal protest at the UN, saying that "Mapuche Indians enjoy a high standard of living in Chile. Some even have their own houses".

What is the living standard for the Mapuche Indians compared to the Palestinians? Not rhetorical.

This is true. I suppose I fall somewhere in the middle. I'm opposed to someone rolling into someone else's territory clinging to colonial bootstraps and calling it a nation. The countries of the New World are really no better. I don't believe in any particular Jewish right to the Holy Land, as I fail to see any non-religious justification for such. That said, Israel is there, and the Israeli people are there, so what's done is done. By no means to I wish to see the Israeli state destroyed, and I'm sympathetic to the Israeli people, but that doesn't mean that I'm anti-Jewish for saying that given a choice to go back in time, I'd push for a Jewish state in a place less volatile than the most volatile place in the world.

Regardless, recognizing Palestine doesn't equal being against the Jewish people, nor does such rhetoric help Israel in the least.

I agree, that's not anti-Jewish at all.
