I've been to El Paso in November 2008. Juarez across the border sux a lot more! I was glad to get back to Tx, USA by sundown. Kinda disappointed the Rio Grande was not much more than a small unimposing double aquaduct, with the lion's share of water on the US side.

I've been there at least a dozen times. Nothing good to say about it, either.
Las Cruces, New Mexico, which is about 45 miles N of El Paso is an OK place.
Don't even think about going to Juarez. I doubt any place in the world has a higher murder rate.

My aunt used to live in El Paso and, like everyone else here, had nothing good to say about it.

for good border times, you can't beat san diego-tijuana. although it seems people are more afraid to go to tijuana in recent years.

Go to the tap room in downtown, it rocks.

El Paso isn't that bad, there are definitely worse places in TX.

I like El Paso for what it is- mountainous border town that has good weather most of the time. That and the fact that it's my family's ancestral home. Aside from Mexico, I mean.

What do you have against it, if I may ask?

el paso itself is a pretty interesting town, largest metro area thats on an international border (ciuad juarez is a huge town) but sad to say do not go to ciuad juarez any more its more dangerous than baghdad or kabul which is sad as it was a good party town in its day.

even sadder is now most any border town along the texas-mexican border can be pretty dangerous, used to be real fun to go to matamoros, nuevo laredo etc dirt cheap tequila amongst other things

like someone above said las cruces, nm is a very nice town and well worth the drive up i-10

I drove around El Paso...and I rather liked it.

West Texas is kind of interesting...the kind of place that a cow skull makes total sense...type of place.

El Paso has an interesting mix...wild west, mexican, etc. Plus all the other typical restaurants, etc.

No.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit%E2%80%93Windsor is larger, though I'm not sure if it's the largest.

Sgt. Hartman and Private Cowboy. Classic. "Only steers and queers come from Texas, and you don't look like a steer, so I guess that narrows it down." What a great movie FMJ was. Laughing

you can't be serious. you must have never been to any other border town.

i've been to tijuana, nuevo laredo, acuna, & ojinaga, and tijuana was definitely the most boring border city, ever.

being from texas, i've been to my fair share of border crossings, acuna being the best for partying or a casual dinner at a nice restaurant (crosby's is great).

never been to el paso, nor juarez, but wouldnt want to go with the crime as it is. NL is also not very safe i hear, but i believe acuna is one of the safer ones.
