As a matter of policy, public schools WON'T house an unmarried couple together (but they don't care if you move in together after they give you separate housing).

Most hagwans don't care if you are married or not as long as you are both teaching for them. (if one of you is working at a different hagwan they will usually only supply "single" housing.

Yeah, my hagwon doesn't care. They give us an apartment to share, but they also offered us single housing in case we weren't comfortable living together. At first, they made us work at separate campuses because they didn't want us living and working together 24/7 and perhaps fighting and breaking up. Now they know we're cool, and we work at the same campus.

or you could find your own place - should be able to squeeze out 400k each for housing allowance. you could find a decent place for 800 a month but then there is the key money.

good luck

It is my understanding that SMOE now asks for a marriage certificate if you claim to be married (which is the only way they will guarantee shared housing), but I cannot verify if this is true, as we were not asked when we arrived (2 and half years ago). We replaced an unmarried couple that were given shared housing.

if you work at separate schools like my boyfriend and i... he took the apartment from his school and i get a housing stipend from mine (400,000 won a month). i would much rather have the extra money than "couples housing".

Be careful of this. One of my coworkers came over with his wife and the school decided to charge him an extra 50,000 a month for a "larger" apartment that is smaller than the one I live in alone, claiming that they were giving him something bigger because he was with his wife. The school may try to squeeze you.

Also, my buddy works for a CDI where a couple came over and the school somehow managed to convince them to pay the 400,000 a month rent on two separate apartments while only giving them access to one. Don't do this.
