|
|
The Camarata Music Company will be performing Mozart's "Requiem" this spring (May 7, 2011), and we are looking for anyone that wishes to sing to join the choir! We are looking for all voice types, and all levels, from beginner to advanced! Our choir consists of people from beginners to advanced level, and we have a great time!!! We will perform complete with orchestra and soloists.
Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons, from 4:00-7:00 PM, in Haebangchon, near the Seoul International Baptist Church. Rehearsals begin on January 23. For anyone that is a new member, we ask you to come a little early (at 3:00), for a brief audition of some simple vocalizing. No need to prepare anything! As long as you can sing in tune, you are fine!
For those interested, please call Ryan at: 010-9806-8655, or email at: ryan (at) camaratamusic (dot) com, or goesslry (at) gmail (dot) com.
About CMC:
Introduction - The Camarata Music Company is a non-profit organization that provides an opportunity for people, both Korean and foreigners, to perform beautiful classical music together. With the lack of performance opportunities within Korea, we aim to provide an avenue for classical musicians to perform, hone in on their musical technique, build repertoire, and perform. With members from many nationalities (currently 19 different nationalities), we hope to bring many different experiences from people of many different cultures. We also wish to provide more opportunities for the public to hear classical performances, and experience collaborative performances of people from many different nationalities.
Performance - CMC performs 4-6 major concerts every year, building up to our large Christmas concert of Handel's Messiah. We take a step further than the standard repertoire in Korea, and work to perform other works that may not be as popular or mainstream in Korea, even if they are elsewhere. We also perform the classics, offering a variety of music, genres, languages and styles, from Latin masses, oratorio, opera and operetta, musical theatre, and secular classical.
Outreach Vision - CMC believes that music is something that should be shared with everyone, no matter what their situation, especially children. So, it is the vision of CMC to create a music program in local orphanages and low-income areas. The goal of this project is to create a children's choir and orchestra, provide lessons free of charge (in English and Korean), purchase musical instruments for children who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford them, and to provide high-quality performances that are accessible to all. |

all weather makes me want to sing a death mass. Actually, and "entering a new, unknown world" mass. :0 |

In what language will the song be sung? It is a VERY long song, here is the English translation...
Grant them eternal rest, Lord,
and let perpetual light shine on them.
You are praised, God, in Zion,
and homage will be paid to You in Jerusalem.
Hear my prayer,
to You all flesh will come.
Grant them eternal rest, Lord,
and let perpetual light shine on them.
Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us.
Day of wrath, day of anger
will dissolve the world in ashes,
as foretold by David and the Sibyl.
Great trembling there will be
when the Judge descends from heaven
to examine all things closely.
The trumpet will send its wondrous sound
throughout earth's sepulchres
and gather all before the throne.
Death and nature will be astounded,
when all creation rises again,
to answer the judgement.
A book will be brought forth,
in which all will be written,
by which the world will be judged.
When the judge takes his place,
what is hidden will be revealed,
nothing will remain unavenged.
What shall a wretch like me say?
Who shall intercede for me,
when the just ones need mercy?
King of tremendous majesty,
who freely saves those worthy ones,
save me, source of mercy.
Remember, kind Jesus,
my salvation caused your suffering;
do not forsake me on that day.
Faint and weary you have sought me,
redeemed me, suffering on the cross;
may such great effort not be in vain.
Righteous judge of vengeance,
grant me the gift of absolution
before the day of retribution.
I moan as one who is guilty:
owning my shame with a red face;
suppliant before you, Lord.
You, who absolved Mary,
and listened to the thief,
give me hope also.
My prayers are unworthy,
but, good Lord, have mercy,
and rescue me from eternal fire.
Provide me a place among the sheep,
and separate me from the goats,
guiding me to Your right hand.
When the accused are confounded,
and doomed to flames of woe,
call me among the blessed.
I kneel with submissive heart,
my contrition is like ashes,
help me in my final condition.
That day of tears and mourning,
when from the ashes shall arise,
all humanity to be judged.
Spare us by your mercy, Lord,
gentle Lord Jesus,
grant them eternal rest. Amen.
Lord Jesus Christ, King of glory,
liberate the souls of the faithful,
departed from the pains of hell
and from the bottomless pit.
Deliver them from the lion's mouth,
lest hell swallow them up,
lest they fall into darkness.
Let the standard-bearer, holy Michael,
bring them into holy light.
Which was promised to Abraham
and his descendants.
Sacrifices and prayers of praise, Lord,
we offer to You.
Receive them in behalf of those souls
we commemorate today.
And let them, Lord,
pass from death to life,
which was promised to Abraham
and his descendants.
Lamb of God, who takes away
the sins of the world,
grant them eternal rest.
Lamb of God, who takes away
the sins of the world,
Grant them eternal rest.
Lamb of God, who takes away
the sins of the world,
grant them eternal rest forever.
Let eternal light shine on them, Lord,
as with Your saints in eternity,
because You are merciful.
Grant them eternal rest, Lord,
and let perpetual light shine on them,
as with Your saints in eternity,
because You are merciful. |

the work is 60 minutes in length, will be sung with orchestra, and will have professional soloists for the solos.
Will be sung in Latin (except the Kyrie, which is in Greek). |

I am an awful singer, but I'll definitely go see the performance. Best of luck in getting people. |
