it's good to see quite a few mma fans on this board.
i am definitely pumped about the line up- mostly for the silva vs. belfort fight and the bader vs. jones fight. what's your take?
after chael sonnen showed obvious holes in silva's game, i don't know what to think. i think belfort definitely has a serious chance of taking the belt even though he wants to stand up and trade with silva. i'm rooting for belfort because i want to see a new champ in that division.
as for the bader vs. jones fight.... bader's been on a pretty good win streak and does seem like the toughest opponent so far for jones. i'm a little wary of jones' cardio though, he seemed a little gassed in the stephan bonnar fight. i can see bader wearing jones down and possibly winning by points. i'm still rooting for jones though.
here's the long preview of ufc 126

I always felt a good solid boxer; who had a strong chin and couyld "stand in the pocket" aganst Silva would be able to deliver some hurt on him. I think Belfort has the hand speed to cause some problems, but I think he is inferior on all other levels, mostl likely on the ground and certainly from distance.
Jon Jones to me, is simply the most talented fighter in the world IMO. His stand up is amazing for a "wrestler" and his wrestling is out of this world. He is reminds me of a better version of Vasquez. |

Yes, there are mma fans here...but where are the frigging gyms...OUTSIDE OF SEOUL, Moi j'en ai marre of the long a$$ commute to Seoul...anyways.
Belfort vs. Silva
(story) vs. (logic)
Neither of these two are world class wrestlers (as in greco or freestyle), although they are highly efficient at BJJ, I think this bout will remain a stand up battle. I think Belfort might just get the win...my opinion has nothing to do with his ability and his opponent possible lack there of, but rather, his (Belforts) "story", being the youngest champion blah blah blah, he has come a long way, gained a variety of new skills sets along with motivation...I think if he shows more heart and determination, he could possibly KO/ or submit Mr. Silva.
Anyways, as for thinking rationally, Silva will KO Belfort, expect a high light reel type a KO....
Bader vs Jones
(tough) (deserved hype)
Jones is the man, he doesnt beleive his own hype...he knows he has a long way to go...and that's cool for him, cus his mind is in the right "frame". Bader is a better wrestler (or more accomplished wrestler), but alas, the reach advanteage compounded by the all out unpredictability of Mr.Jones is going to leave Bader semi confused....y'all remember Jones vs Hamill...Hamill "aint no punk"...but damn he was crying tears of blood...I shouldnt compare Bader to Hamil but quite frankly, if Bader doesnt close the distance and keep it tight, he is just going to be another

Jones wins via disturbing ground and pound |

I think Jones will walk through Bader.
The Silva/Belfort fight is hard to call. I think Sonnen showed that their are holes in Silva's game, but Belfort isn't near the wrestler Sonnen is. I think Belfort has a good chance if he can close the distance and use his hand speed to overwhelm Silva. I wouldn't put any money on this fight though. |

I am pretty excited for this card. I think Silva takes it. Sure, Sonnen showed some holes in Silva's game but I think a lot of that had to do with Silva's over confidence and lack of wrestling. I think he might want to make an example of Belfort. I haven't seen enough of Vitor though to have much of an informed opinion on him. Jones vs Bader should be fun, see which one of these guys is the real deal. I am also pretty psyched to see if Forrest has it back mentally and can beat someone other than broke down Tito. I plan on being on vacation in the states for this one with a giant plate of wings in front of me. Wooo |

Totally agree. I'm sick to death of "Silva is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world" stuff. The fight with Sonnen was a pleasure to watch, but you could see him growing overconfident and reckless in the leadup to getting submitted. |

Well, after he went up to light heavy weight and destroyed Forrest, you had to be impressed? I am hoping he wins so they can set up the GSP vs Silva super fight (though I think Silva vs Shogun would be way cooler) |

vitor says he's going there to fight, not to "not lose." so i hope he's not going to just head hunt or be too aggressive. silva is a counter striker and is also very evasive... but of course vitor knows this so i wonder how he thinks he's going to out strike silva. it seems like the best way to beat silva is take him down and ground and pound, which is what gsp would do if that fight ever happens.
but i feel like they're both kind of avoiding it. gsp is saying if he goes up in weight, he will do it slowly and carefully, which means it wouldn't be until after next year. silva isn't getting any younger. |
