when bad stuff happens in korea. because of retarded decisions like this:

A bus driver who injured a sexual molester during an attempt to prevent him from assaulting another person was convicted of assault Sunday.
The Seoul Central District Court sentenced a 50-year-old bus driver to six months in jail, suspended for two years, after he injured a male student who molested a female passenger and then attacked a female escort on a school bus.
Last May, a male student at a school for the disabled, started groping and sexually harassing a female student who was sitting in front of him on the bus.
When a female employee from the school told the female student to change seats, the male student got angry and attacked her, pushing her down and pressing himself on top of her.
The driver stopped the bus, and went to intervene but ended up injuring the student�s eye in the process.
�Although the injury took place while the bus driver was trying to stop the male student from making a scene, he injured him and it required six weeks of hospital treatment. Also he did not come to any settlement with the student,� the court said in a ruling.

This sort of thing is a good reason not to live in Korea long-term.
A year or two while you're in your 20's or early 30's is fine, but if you're going to spend your whole life living somewhere, you are eventually going to have to need the local justice system. if you're living someplace where the justice system is totally twisted compared to your own sense of justice, you're going to have big problems. |

To be fair, it's not as if Korea is a static place. Things can, and most likely will, change. It's like being in the US in 1960 and saying, "Hey, get out of here, it's going to be this bad forever." As Korea is in the process of growing up, it's a bit disingenuous to project current norms far into the future. It's worth remembering that the youngest foreign teachers in Korea are about the same age as Korean democracy. |

Doesn't suspended for two years mean, as long as he does not commit any chargable crime for two years his sentence is considered as being seved i.e. NO Jail time (that's what it means back home anyway).
In other words its just a slap on the wrists with no actual prison time served. Probably a realistic charge considering the molester was put in Hospital for 6 weeks (and he was a disabled teenager).
The bus driver was maybe a tad overenthusiastic while he was restraining him  .
Personally, if that was the sentence I'd been given for for the same actions I'd be happy with the result  |

Just because the person the driver dealt with physically was a pervert it does not mean that he cannot be charged...Justice does not work only one way.
If for example someone beats the crap out of someone who just beat the crap out of someone else, it does not mean that person gets immunity right?
Still, too bad for the driver. |

Yes, you're right Patrick beating he crap out of someone will certainly mean you are going to get charged, in any western country
However, the legal definition of assault or threatening behaviour is far more broad than is generally thought.
For instance in my past life working with teenage criminals, I was told by a Police Sargent that if ever one of my clients or someone else even acted aggressive towards me and clenched their fist, that was threatening behaviour and I could defend myself.
Assault can a be any form of physical touch, even a light shoulder tap.
I had one client who threatened me, I was working with him because he had two serious assault charges. My city was small so the chances of seeing him out and about were a possibility. My supervisor actually asked me what I would do if I saw him.
I said that if he even acted aggresivley against me I would take him out, one punch, only because the touchy feely stuff wasn't really applicable for him. My boss just said ok, she's a kinda cool lady really.
One punch or even a little bit more is using reasonable force, to carry on when the person is incapacitated is assault |
