PST 700pm Obama gave a heartfelt speech on the Tucson murders. I was moved by his words very, very much. I think a few tears even tried to make it to my eyes, but I fought them off real good with my mandroid x willpower.
I'm sure it'll be online everywhere soon.
Good speech. I wish you'd have done the same for the Ft. Hood murders though. |

America is a violent country, largely due to policies crafted by our corrupt and money hungry politicians. Sorry if I have little sympathy.
EDITED to remove New Orleans reference since it clearly went off topic.

My city was murder capital of the world twice in the 90's (New Orleans). We still have 1-2 murders per week. Do they get an Obama speech? |
Let's check.
...yep, they get an Obama speech.

A speech about Katrina recovery is not even close. |

This happened long before Katrina.
Nice try though. |
So why ask for an Obama speech then? |

Just comes off as kind of fake to only acknowledge America's endemic violence problem when it happens to one of their own. |

For the same reason as the congress woman?

I kind of agree with Riker in that daily violence isn't given the same sort of coverage. An attack on a member of Congress though is a quite different matter if the motivation is a direct attack on the state. In that case any of the House members would do, and it becomes a more cold-blooded affair directed at an entire country instead of an individual thing. Generally the more a crime is aimed at an entire system (and peripherally the people that live in it) the more attention it should receive. Then again, this kind of attack is pretty much impossible to prevent.
I don't think it has anything to do with Obama, to be honest. Bush probably would have made more or less the same speech. |

The attack didn't really bother me so much, after all getting shot in the head is not uncommon in just about any inner city.
What really bothers me is the reaction. Perfectly respectable and nice people get murdered all the time and our elected official really couldn't care less. |

Sure they know all about the inner city. Yep! |

It bothers me just as much as the little girl that got killed riding her bike in a drive by where I live.
She was not near a congress woman, so its not a big deal. No "national moment of silence" for her.
How pathetic, what a joke. |

I just googled Obama and Katrina, because I thought that's what you wanted when you said that the other speech happened way before Katrina.
What exactly do you want? |

I'm not from North America, but what disturbs me the most about this thread is mithridates avatar. C'mon, he's the future Darth Vader? REALLY? Even his "evil" look is pathetic! |
