There has been water forming on my walls and dripping down to the floor which is causing mold to grow. I decided to buy a dehumidifier to combat the problem. I went to Hi-Mart and picked out a small one from their selection that was within my price range.

But when I tried to buy it, the sales guy said that I couldn't. He used his phone to translate the word "obsolete." I said I didn't really care if it was obsolete as long as it worked. He said no, all the models are out of season. I can't buy any of the dehumidifiers because it's winter. I explained that I have a lot of water in my apartment that I need taken out, and he pointed to the humidifiers. Somehow I don't think a humidifier will solve my problem.

Then I asked if I could buy the display model but he said no. He used his phone to translate the words "fake", "imitation", and "mock". So I left the store really irritated that they would have dehumidifiers on display but not for sale just because it's winter.

Should I continue to look for one in other stores or are they impossible to buy in the winter?

A friend just bought a large dehumidifier from Gmarket and he's really happy with it. Cost him like 100K, but you can get smaller ones for about 40K.

No, you can't. National law.

Okay, seriously.

If you've ever worked retail, you know that there are some things that don't sell in certain seasons, so the store probably doesn't have them now. Considering you had to use your phone to translate, it's probably a communication problem.

They probably don't have any in stock, but they could order them for you, I'm sure of it. I would either use GMarket, or bring someone who speaks Korean with you to get an exact answer.

No this particular store definitely did not have any for sale. I asked if they could order one and he said they can't because they're "obsolete" and "not in season". I asked why they had them on display and he laughed but couldn't give a reason. He seemed surprised that I would even want one in the winter. A few other stores around my neighbourhood did not have any on display.

But I just ordered one from GMarket. I've had bad luck with GMarket in the past so I have my fingers crossed.
