Not sure but ill tell you what my friend did.
He was with SK, and he was paying for a phone every month. I think around 15,000WON or something each month for JUST the phone.
To switch over to KT, at the KT store, the KT reps will call SK and set it up so that he still pays the 15,000WON every month to SK until his contract runs out. You don't pay for the price of the Plan you had with SK. JUST the phone.
He won't pay a cancellation fee, he just pays the 15,000WON each month to SK to pay off his phone, till his contract with SK expires.
Now if he wasn't paying for a phone with SK and only had a monthly fee, I'm not sure what you would have to pay. I assume there would be some sort of cancellation fee. |

is this right? im curious about this coz my wife might wanna switch from sk to kt.
my thinking is the 15,000 is the full price of the phone right? because if the 15,000won is a discounted price wouldnt they be eligible to ask for the full 900,000 or whatever a high end phone costs? or u could just go for most expensive plan do it 1 month, cancel then just pay 10k a month for 2 months. it doesnt seem logical for the phone company to let you get away with that and get a smart phone for 300k or something cheap. |

| I am sure this has been asked before, but can foreigners with only an E2 visa get an iphone on a monthly plan? What ID do you need to provide? What are the hook up fees, if any? |

yes, but you need a Korean credit card. Ilite is costing me 67,000 over 2 years, no upfront payment. |

You can, as an E2 visa, get a phone on an installment plan without a korean credit card. This is a new policy from KT. You read about it on their expat twitter account and their blog.
I just reserved an iphone at the Gangnam global store. You have to reserve it at a global store.
Even at the global store, one of the few locations in the country where foreigners can reserve an iphone, staff was clueless about the new policies. I had to be very stubborn and argue for quite some time with the staff that their company just changed the policy. I used their laptop to show them all of the marketing materials that KT has created. They made quite a few phone calls and eventually confirmed that the policy has changed.
It was pretty long fiasco and I essentially had to be a pain and refuse to leave until I got what I wanted.
That being said, once they confirmed the new policy, the form itself took only a few minutes. The gentleman who helped me took his time to show me all of the different options available to me in decent English and slow, understandable Korean. All of the rate plan information is in Korean, so you should be able to read or bring a Korean friend along with you. The information is all in Korean because it is exactly the same rate plan for Koreans.
Be sure to ask about handphone insurance. If you have insurance and lose or break your i phone, your out of pocket cost will be about 300,000 (for a 32g model) when it is all said and done. The cost of the phone without insurance is 946k or so. |

I had no issues at the jong-no global store as I mentioned. They had a stack of brochures on every desk in english about the new policies and pricing plans including the visa list that it applied to.
and unless the global store in gangnam is new, you weren't actually at a global store

and we've already established you don't have to reserve it at a global store, just that it's easiest. A lot of the other stores are lazy and won't do it, but some people have found ones that will. |

I think I pay 70-80,000 a month for the unlimited bandwidth option.
I have an issue with my phone. It seems that my family (in England) can't call me. Nor can they send me text messages. If I use skype, tango, or viber it's fine, because it's done through WiFi or 3G. Have I inadvertently blocked all overseas calls? |

Anyone have any good or bad experiences at the Itaewon or Dongdaemun KT Global locations?
The 2-year contracts still offer better discounts over the 1 year or 1 1/2 year contacts? |

Got the 55 000 a month plan..
I'm still waiting for my first bill..
It's been over a month since I got phone ..
Not sure what my final monthly bill will be but I'm hoping/guessing it's going to be around 70 000 |

As far as I am aware the only options are two years or pay up front which also has a two year contract!!
No option for 1 or 1 and half year contracts!!!! |
