The class is quite good. I enjoy watching it. I'm astounded tthat it's on EBS HD and aired in Korea...then again Koreans are obsessed with Ivy League anything. |

its so funny. when i didn't hear anything about foreign colleges until about 7/8 years ago. when i first came here in 96, i think no one knew. the few people i had met who had gone to uni overseas were all kind of hippyz or a little out there.
it just goes with the zero sum/there is one best ideas that confucianism/self-imposed isolation has created in Korea. When people dont develop their own personalities/characters, its easy for these simplistic mindsets to set in.
that said, i always welcome them as an american, spend that money in our country! ebs has to pay alot of money for those courses to be broadcast.
it is amazing how many people study english nowadays...compared to even 5 years ago.
so more english teachers will flood this country, and some of them will get married and have kids here, its the 4th invasion. but this time its welcomed (by the parents, not the middle aged men we arent respecting enough or the young guys who will have no girlfriends becuase theyre all dating whiteyz).
where did all that come from?? sorry... |

Sandel's book "Justice" is also a bestseller in Korea and you can buy the DVD of his lectures here, too. |

I been watching that Mr Sandel justice series on EBS lately too. I must say that while it was refreshing to hear English on the public broadcast TV for once...after a short while (one or two episodes) was was more than slightly bored.
H\It must be a first year course because the topics and meticulous way he explains things could only be aimed at people without any knowledge of philosophy, politics or ethics.
I have never studied those topics in Uni or highschool but did come across them on my own in my spare time. I don't read much...my major were business then linguistics.
I think you need to have been asleep through university or want to learn English to listen to more than one episode of his lectures.
Having said that I applaud EBS fo4r showing that but for me to be interested in something on tv it has to offer me something I don't already know (or entertainment). |

I watched the first 12 lectures yesterday and it serves to remind me just how useless philosophy is. |
