|

Ok, So I've heard of BHC, Goobne and BBQ chicken. But I have no idea about them.
I know they do delivery but do they do in-store to?
I dont understand why they wouldnt, but when I looked on daum to find one... I couldnt.
I live in Apgujeong, Near Rodeo Drive/Street and I find KFC expensive all over the world.
I'm assuming that any other Fried Chicken place like KFC would be cheaper because... well, KFC is overpriced.
I have had BHC before and it was really nice and didnt taste as unhealthy as KFC.
So does anyone know of any good Fried Chicken or just Fast Food in general that isnt American? ie. McDonalds, KFC, Burger King etc. |

All Korean fried chicken is expensive. It's good, but it's always expensive. KFC is about on par with the rest. |

Most of the fried chicken places aren't cheap. You can surely go into the stores and pick it up. They usually have tables, too, and will sell drinks. A lot of hofs (pubs) also sell chicken, some specializing in it. They will also do take-out.
It's not cheap. You generally buy a whole chicken's worth of meat. It costs anywhere fro 12,000-16,000 won. Cheaper does exist (they sold it for really cheap at Lotte Mart recently, but that was an exception). There's usually regular fried chicken, yangnyeom (sweet spicy sauce on it) and maybe some other options like wings or legs or some other specialty.
But, it's not quite fast food like KFC. Expect to wait 10 minutes or more because they will fry it to order.
That being said, some of the fried chicken here in Korea is very good. |

My wife will sometimes buy me fried chicken and a draft at BBQ because they use olive oil for frying. It's expensive, but it's wife-approved... |

Delivery is easy, anyways. You just call them, say your address (get a Korean to help you practice the pronunciation if you're not comfortable). Then you just say what you want and how much of it.
1 fried chicken- 후라이드 치킨 한마리 주세요. hu-ra-i-deu chi-kin han-ma-ri ju-se-yo.
If you want, when you call them, you can start with "I'm a foreigner." 외국인 입니다 way-guk-in im-ni-da. they may be a little more patient and understanding. |

I've not found any "cheap" fried chicken, but I go to this place in Uiwang (which is ironically located above a Lotteria) that is absolutely amazing. Their chicken is always cooked just right, not raw or overdone to dryness, juicy and seasoned to perfection. I haven't had anything from that restaurant I didn't like (except the really spicy stuff, which was still good, but not something I can handle).
Best thing to do if you want to keep prices down is to go with a group of people and get a platter of some sort. With all the side dishes that come with a huge platter of chicken, nobody should leave hungry, and ideally nobody should pay more than 12,000 won for the meal (this is including a "tower" of beer at the place I like). Almost as expensive as galbi, but totally worth it, IMHO. The fried chicken here is like nothing I've had back in the US. |

Cheapest place I found is 8,000 won for takeout at a hof (10,000 if you eat-in). It's a bit on the smaller side but just unusually cheap. |

Not necessarily healthy, but it's less unhealthy in my wife's mind, so that means more fried chicken and drafts for me... |

Sounds like getting the Supersized Big Mac Meal with a diet coke. |

Wouldn't frying it in olive oil (which burns at lower temps than other cooking oils and thus leads to more carcinogens) make it less healthy? |

Had the same thought when I read the other post. Could someone chime in on frying using olive oil? I always use peanut oil when stir-frying anything since it requires a higher temperature (and peanut oil can withstand quite high temps AFAIK). |

I don't care much for McD's or diet soft drinks, personally...
For as often as I actually go to BBQ (maybe once a month at the most), I'm not terribly worried about the health consequences. |
