First of all I apologize if there is already a thread on this--I couldn't find it if there is.

I am wondering what it is currently like living in South Korea since North Korea attacked them. Is it safe/dangerous? How likely is it that they will go to war?

I was hoping to go to South Korea to teach English but I am now thinking that somewhere else like Japan/Taiwan may be safer...thoughts?

War is too risky for either country and there allies, so there wont be an active war anytime soon. Its extremely safe here. So safe that an elemantary school kid could walk around at night by herself and not be scared. The war situtation happens alot, but its just North Korea getting angry or flexing there muscles. The Island Attacks were probably the closest to war since the war "ended", but nothing happened and its subsiding, so by all means come.

Anything can happen. North Korea is unpredictable.

You know, I think this is the first time we've discussed this on the forum.

I have asked my landlord to expel 8 English teachers so that I could move from the 5th floor into the basement of my villa. I'm pretty much protected from shrapnel now. Next week the LL will pour extra concrete onto the floor above me to account for the unlikely case of a direct hit.

I feel safe now.

Nowhere is safe. North Korea is going to turn Seoul and Tokyo into towering infernos with its arsenal of ballistic missile mounted nuclear weapons. The Chinese invasion of Taiwan is imminent. China's building a wall to keep out Mongolians. Just stay home.

Should I encourage fear-mongering so as to drive the competition away? hmmm.......

Thanks for the help..... (/sarcasm)

It's a legitimate question--I have no idea, I have never been there and I know nobody in Asia. And this internet sarcasm (if that's what it is, as it's impossible to tell online) isn't helpful.

Today "I will win the war" was written down by one of my students as his resolution for the new year.

If anyone was really, truly worried about war, they wouldn't be here. When people are truly worried about war they tend to do things like throw everything into the back of a truck and drive 200 miles away while their country grabs every single able bodied male under 50 and throws them into uniform.
