Hello everyone,
I am debating between two positions and since I have never been to Korea am seeking some input!
They are between Geoje and Chungnam.
Chungnam (govt school position through Chungnam dept. of education)
2.3 million won
18 days vacation + national holidays
2.6 million won flight allowance
22 classes a week (not sure what this means exactly????)
Not sure on specific location in Chungnam and ages
Geoje is in a private hogwan
2.2 million won
10 days vacation (and I think national holidays)
Schedule is 9 am- 6 pm M-F, stating 6 teaching hours daily
Kindergarten and elementary
Paid flights
Both have the usual, furnished apartment, bonus etc...
Obviously the package for Chungnam is better...but it seems pretty rural in comparison to Geoje. Any thoughts????
Thanks!! |

I love Geoje and I first came here at the start of 2007, I still work in Geoje for the same hagwon I started with back then.
It's a great place to live and now takes only an hour to get to busan with the new bridge and the bus is only 6,800won e/w(about $6) and buses go on the half hour, sometimes at 20 and 40 after the hour too... in comparison the the ferry which used to only run about 5 times a day from gohyeon, costing 22,000won e/w ($20) or the old bus which was 12,000won e/w and took about 2 hours 30 mins.
Geoje is awesome to live in, good beaches, people and things to do. The shopping and restaurant selection has also picked up greatly and from what i've heard, geoje has the highest ratio of foreigners to koreans in the country. This means Homeplus (tesco) stocks waaay more western food than before and there are also about 6-7 foreign markets in the area.
If you want to send me a message asking about the school I may know of it and be able to give you information on the place. |

Hi,
Thanks for the info!! I would much prefer to be in Geoje...but the other position ends up being significantly more money. But, that being said, I don't want to be miserable in the middle of no where with no other foreigners (not sure Chungnam is like that, but hearing some of that).
I can't pm you, I don't have 25 posts yet. The school is Eisner, do you know it?
Thanks! |

I lived on Geoje for over three years and loved the lack of gawking at foreigners because there are so many of them there. The island has even milder weather than Busan and great beaches. There are few better places to live from March through October. I'd still be there if I didn't decide to head over here to Jeju for a spell. |
