I'll be working for a hagwon once my paperwork is done. I'm confused over whether the Korean consulate in Toronto requires a local police station record check or an RCMP check with fingerprints. (The visa regulations may have changed recently). Could anyone help me?

| A local check is fine. All police forces in the country run your name through the CPIC database (Canadian Police Information Centre) and this qualifies as a national check. |

A local check used to be fine.
I have heard (but no personal experience yet) from acquaintances at K-immi that as of Jan. 1 they are only accepting RCMP checks (checks from an RCMP detachment (with prints) and checked against the CPIC database) and that those done by provincial or municipal forces may not be accepted by any/all immigration offices.
Basically, I was told that if it wasn't on an RCMP form it wouldn't be accepted but I cannot confirm that as fact.

From what I have read local checks in Canada are OK because they use the RCMP database. I even saw one that said as long as it says "result of name search" or "result of fingerprint search" it's OK. Fingerprints are needed to get a CRC with a "vulnerable sector search" which you don't need for a visa here. try the Winnipeg Police Dept. and be sure to check "non-vulnerable search." You can apply by fax and pay with a credit card, but they only send it back by regular mail- so get it sent to someone in canada and have them courier it.

It doesn't matter what you've read, what matters is what Korean immigration
officials will accept.
Call them and get it straight from the horses "petutie" if you really want to know. |

Nope. Got mine 2+ years ago. Local police department, no fingerprints, RCMP database, Vulnerable Sector included. |

But even this doesn't matter because it depends on which person answers the phone and how they are feeling on that particular day. |
