I live right next to it and it I heard it was supposed to be finished by 2010... Yeah, so its still there...
Does anyone have anything? just asking because unlike most other countries, Seoul seems to be extremely good at finishing construction on time (what I've seen of it anyway).

Im talking about the Bundang line thats extending from Seullong to Wangshimi btw.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin_Bundang_Line

It says September of this year.

I'm wondering about the new line they were working on that is supposed to connect Suwon and Bundang. Right now, if you want to go from Suwon to Bundang on a subway line, you have to go up into central Seoul. It takes 20 minutes on a bus but 1.5 hours on a subway as it is.

I think the reason they're building it is to help populate Dongtan, the new city near Suwon that is awesome in just about every way except for the fact that not many people moved there and it has no subway access.

Careful - there are *two* Bundang lines under construction.

The one the OP asked about is the original Bundang line - yellow on subway maps. That's getting both a northern extension to Wangsimni, and a southern extension to Suwon. The northern part is scheduled to open this coming December, while the southern extension will be opening in stages starting later this year and finally reaching Suwon in 2013.

The second line is the Sin Bundang Line (Sin = new). That one is red on subway maps, and will be an express train with very few stops, direct from Gangnam Station to Jeongja Station in Bundang. *That* is the one that should be open this September, and the one linked on Wikipedia. It may, many years later, also be extended north (to Yongsan, or perhaps Gwanghwamun) and south (to a different part of Suwon), but those aren't under construction as of now.

Well now, be careful, there's actually a lot more going on.

First, the Sin Bundang line from Jeongja to Gangnam. It was supposed to be open in July 2010. Then it was pushed back to December of 2010, now they say September of 2011. I've seen numerous newspaper articles on this over the years.

The extension of the Bundang line south has nothing to do with Dongtan. It's going through Suwon. It will go through the west edge of Yongin, then curve over into Suwon, going through Yeongtong, then ending at Suwon Station. That's got a few more years on it.

There is another line going from Imae station in Bundang to the east, but that's nowhere near completion. It's scheduled to open in 2014 (I believe!) which means it probably won't be open til '15 or '16.

The extension from Seolleong to Wangsimni - that was supposed to have opened in late 2010, but still no word.

I've been searching for ORIGINAL SOURCE answers to these questions for some time. I've been reading the newspapers and any information I can get my hands on to find out a solid answer. If you follow the links from Wikipedia and other open source places, they all go in a big circle. So, long story short, no one really knows at this point.

It's going to be pretty close to Dongtan. I bet $100 that they'll build a line that connects Dongtan to the line going through Yeongtong. They wouldn't just build an entire city like Dongtan then leave it to ferment like kimchi.

I doubt it.
1) It's about 2 miles from the edge of Dongtan.
2) If they were going to do it, they would have put in the tunnels when they built the place. It is a planned city.
3) They are building a KTX line through the city.
4) They opened Seodongtan off of line 1.

If anything, they'll have another connector from the KTX station up to the Suin line, but not a dedicated, seperate line. Dongtan has very little need for a subway - everyone there owns a car or two, it's right off the highway, they have Byeongjeom station to the west, Seodongtan to the southwest, and Osan University to the south. They'll have the new KTX line on the east side of town. I just don't see them doing anything else.

I first moved to Seoul in 2004, and the main road from Hanti up to Rodeo was even then was a disaster to travel on because of construction on the Bundang line extension to Wangsimni. I live near Wangsimni now and I can tell you that you have to look hard for any sign that a new line is about terminate there.

Anyway, the answer to OP's question is: never. They will never finish the line, and they never intend to. Somewhere deep in the bowels of the Ministry of Truth, a young Winston Kim is rewriting history from "the Bundang extention began construction in 2003" to "the Bundang extension has always been under construction".

That would have been because of the extension from Suseo to Seolleung station, which was completed in September 2003. The extension to Wangsimni didn't even get started until 2006.

Now, don't quote me on this, this is just a guess, BUT, the reason you may not be seeing any outside construction for this is that they may be linking the line up to the existing tracks for the Jungang line. The extension has a tunnel that goes under the river, and if you follow the path of least resistance, it could conceivably come above ground right in line with the existing tracks. If so, the only construction we'd see would be work IN the station (which there is plenty off) and maybe the addition of a kilometer worth of track/spur.

Just a thought. It'd be a lot easier and a lot cheaper than adding a fourth line independently to the station.

Actually all of the blocked middle lanes (especially at intersections) on the road going up from Seolleung to Gangnam-Gu Office station have been that way since at least the very beginning of 2005, when I moved to Daechi. I remember well how badly traffic was snarled then when I was taking a taxi from Hanti to my buddy's place at Gangnam-gu office to jam.

I was of course exaggerating the lack of progress at Wangsimni. You can see the finished tunnel when the train will emerge about 500 meters south of Wangsimni. They have had separate platforms finished for the Bundang line at Wangsimni station for a while now. However I live right there and there hasn't been much if any work done for several months now: no track or other infrastructure, just a tunnel. I'm sure everyone in Gangnam and Seongdong will breathe a sigh of relief when that sucker's finally done, though.
