My visa/contract expires February 18th, but my flight back to America is February 19th. I don't know if I'll come back to Korea in the future for work.

I have to get an "Extension of Sojourn Period" to be able to stay until February 19th, but do I also need to a "REENTRY (Single, Multiple)"?

It looks like you will need an extension. Check your ARC card to make sure of the dates. You can also call immigration, 1345.

I don't see the point in getting a re-entry permit unless you can get a school lined up quickly. The contract periods have to merge, and if you are out too long you will have to get all the paperwork.

There are no re-entry permits any more.

They were eliminated by immigration on Dec.1, 2010.

Registered foreigners no longer need a re-entry permit - they are free to come and go within the duration of their permitted stay (until their ARC (or any extensions) expires) and unregistered foreigners never could get one.

How much does it cost to extend for 1-2 days? I will be getting the ferry out but it leaves a day after my visa expires.

I am in the same boat. I want to leave a week after my E2 finishes.

I thought I read somewhere that you can apply for a tourist visa if you are already legally in the country. I can't find anything on HiKorea, however.

if it's a non-working extension, then it's free. you can do this from the hikorea website and then print out a letter to give to immigration at the airport. i did this back in 2008 and got a free 30 day non-working extension, i believe it's still the same.

Do you mean you printed out the letter and handed it in when you left for good, or left the country and returned?

I just tried to call Immigration, but "sorry, operators are unavailable. Office hours are weekdays 9am to 6pm." It's 1pm on Thursday.

You can do it on-line (if you are able to scan/fax the necessary documents) or at your local immigration office.

It is free.

It takes about 15 minutes to do.

You need:
ARC, passport, exit ticket.
You will be extended till the date of the ticket (max of 30 days from ARC expiry).

^ This is correct. I just got of the phone to Immi.

The form is available on HiKorea (temporary extension of sojourn maybe?) and bring it in to an Immi Office (I don't know about scanning, etc.) with your plane ticket. Voila. I didn't ask about the maximum period.
