I'm teaching at an adult hagwon in Seoul, basically without anything other than a US bachelors degree and a year of hagwon experience.

I like my job a lot, especially running discussion classes. I have met lots of really interesting and worldly people, and learned a ton from my students.

I like teaching adults. But I hate my split shift schedule. (I start work everyday at 6:30 am, and often don't finish until 9:30 pm.)

Are there any adult ESL teaching gigs I could shoot for - hagwon or otherwise - that don't involve a split shift schedule?

I know college is generally considered gravy in Korea. But I don't know if I have the qualifications/experience for that yet...

Also, I should perhaps mention that I am planning to do a Cambridge TESOL this summer, probably in May. Hopefully that will open up opportunities for me...

not old enough to pm yet.

near as i've been able to tell, your only route to dependably avoiding a split shift would be university. as your qualifications stand, probably not going to happen. i have an matesol and 4 years of experience, and only 4 out of 12 universities that i applied to even wanted an interview.

that said, i think your CELTA will help, as will the fact that you're on the ground in Korea. Having a personal connection to somebody in said university would of course be your best advantage.

out of curiosity, would you pm me and let me know where you're working?

Not necessarily. There are jobs at PS teacher training centres which run on a 9-5 type schedule and there are schools that combine adult classes and kids to give teachers a better timetable. The teacher training ones would probably require some PS experience though

Usually if you put in a year at one of the bigger adult hagwons you gain enough seniority to have a 7-2, 9-4, or 1-9 kind of shift. YBM, MBC and Pagoda spring to mind.
