Will the student loan company take money from my overdraft? Im technically under the threshold but this only happened recently.....I have a direct debit with them and only have an overdraft left. Will they take it from this? (I hope not) |

If you have a direct debit paying to them - the direct debit will go out regardless of your account balance. If you exceed your overdraft limit, you'll likely get charged by your bank.
If this is going to happen cancel your direct debit and set it up in an alternate account, or top up that account with some cash.
Edit: If you recently went under the threshold for repayments get in touch with them ASAP and let them know with some proof, then cancel your direct debit. Problem solved. |

i tried to put off my payment a few years back and they said if I sent evidence of my earnings etc., theyd postpone it. I Also explained to them that I was living overseas.
The next day they sent me a letter to say they were sick of waiting for my evidence and demanded the entire amount immediately.
They are blood sucking leeches so organise everything as soon as possible.
I have never given them a penny since |

Christ I hope this isn't happening to me. I moved house and tried to inform them of the address change but couldn't get through so I left it. This was 5 years ago and to my knowledge I've never paid them a penny. |

In the early 2000s I paid them about 100 quid. Since then I've ignored them. I'm hoping for a communist take over which cancels all previous student debts.
I'll wait 'em out. I will... |

I'm with you there.....I've owed the SLC about 5500 quid since 1999.....I even tried to set up a direct debit or some kind of transfer around 2003 but their retarded 19th C system couldn't cope with me trying to pay them from Korea. They could barely handle email correspondence. |

Sounds like a very unhealthy system. They ignore the rules and grab what they can, and the grads ignore the rules and do a bunk. Too much temptation to defect... |

well thats british culture isnt it - the whole economy is based on a system of debt but more and more people are worming out of it by claiming bankruptcy.
So companies try to snare people and then hang you out to dry (such as student overdrafts, low interest loans). They get you while your a student then they have you for life, knowing that in 10 years your arse is stuck with them and youll need a morgage from them sooner or later.
Student loans do the same, they lend you money wether you need it or not becasue they know you will be paying them interest probably for half of the rest of your life. Even if your not, theyre making enough profit from you.
So screw them. They are taking a risk lending us money.
This time, they lost. |
