Now that Google has killed Appbrain's fastinstaller - how do you get games on your Korean smartphone? |

Three ways that I know of...
1. Download games from the Korean providers' app stores. (KT's Show App Store, SK's T Store, etc) They have some games but not nearly the selection that the Android market does.
2. If you can root your phone you can get an app called "Market Access". Basically this app will fool the Android Market into thinking you're in another country (any country you choose) and give you access to all of the apps/games available in that country. Only downside here is that you must root your phone.
3. Download Android games on your pc (using torrents or other means) and load them on your phone via USB. Slightly more hassle than other methods since it involves a computer. You can get a lot of non-free games for free, but it's actually harder to find the free games this way. There aren't many people out there making torrents of free games. |

Use the "my market" app from socialtap. You just have to select "allow mock locations" in your application settings. You can access the markets from other providers without rooting. You will usually have to restart your phone before it will work.
I set mine to sprint in the U.S and got a few games.
I'm waiting for applanet to come back online. |

As mentioned I use:
Applanet: (when it's online it's the best, it seems to have been down for a long time lately, you can get the latest apk file from their site). You'll have access to most Android apps FREE.
My Market: As mentioned, a lil slow but does the job and you can scoop up most of the apps you're missing out on this way.
Internet: (as mentioned, a lil annoying to load apps in through USB or Micro SD). I find searching for an app in google + medifire will often get me a direct download link to the file. When you go through torrents you will often find outdated versions of apps but it's better than nothing.
I don't understand the logic behind blocking games from the official Android Market but allowing the carriers to offer games through their own app markets. Can anyone explain the stupidity behind this? |

Under Korean law, all games must be rated by the board who covers electronic entertainment. Google told them this would be impossible b/c anyone, anywhere, could upload games to the Android Market. Korea told Google that they had to be rated to be offered here, so Google said "no games in Korea."
The games on the carrier stores are, I'm sure, mostly Korean based and rated by the agency. |

That makes sense... but why require ratings on games and not stupid fart apps?
I really hate the logic used by the lawmakers here sometimes... not to mention the extreme protectionism (thus making it impossible to buy say... toothpaste that isn't horrible for less than $4 a tube). Not the thread for such a rant I know |

Korea is miles ahead of the rest of the world in some areas (internet speed), and horribly behind in others (reasonable ways to regulate the internet). |

I took the suggestion and downloaded the My Market application. I went into settings and checked "allow mock locations". I set the location to AT&T and restarted my phone. Everything seemed to be working well. I can see all the applications and games but when I hit the download button nothing happens. It says it will download the program but it never does. Any ideas on how to fix this? |

That doesn't matter anymore. Applanet is back! Go to applanet.net register, and download the latest version. Your game troubles will be over. |

Just tried to use applanet to get games and got that big ugly warning screen from the fuzz here. Gotta love the idiocy of lawmakers here right? |

you could also sign up for the Amazon appstore. They're giving away one free app a day and the first day was Angry Birds Rio, then bubble jump. Cheap and easy to do. |

JD_Tiberius. There is a pretty easy way to get around that KCSC block. Download this program: Tor Browser Bundle (English) version 1.3.21 from this website:
http://www.torproject.org/download/download.html.en
TOR only seems to work with Firefox, so you will have to download the latest Firefox browser. Then simply run the TOR application, it will change your IP location (seems to enjoy using the Czech Republic) and circumvents the KCSC censoring. After the TOR application is up and running a "safe browsing" window will pop up. Use that Firefox window to access and download the new Applanet application.
Websites will run more slowly using TOR as they have to run though an outside VPN source. Using this application will allow you to access any website that has been blocked in South Korea. |

Or use a proxy and rename the download. |
