i worked in a hagwon my first year. i enjoyed it--i had good hours, the co-workers were nice, and kids weren't horrible. although the boss wasn't the best at times, i even went to re-sign. but got a call from city hall offering me a job in public school and never looked back.
but having great co-teachers helps a lot! when i started, the co-teachers i had were amazing. but then when the new term came, i got 2 new ones. i realized i had some big problems with my main co-teacher. after about a month of biting my lip, i let her have it. it took awhile for her to warm up to me again but i'm on my second contract with the school and we get along great now. i had to let her know i wasn't going to put up with her crap. my classes generally have 32 students in them and i don't have too much controlling them without a co-teacher in the room. and most importantly, i get along great with the principal and vice-principal. they learn something new every week and then have conversations with me. and i do the same.
basically, i'm much happier. especially on the days i go home at noon. |
