I'm on my way to Dubai (via Abu Dhabi) for Lunar New Year, as a lone female. I have heard the country is extremely safe so I'm not too worried about that. I'm just curious if anyone here has ever visited there, and has any tips for must-see attractions. I already know I want to see a camel race and the gold souk.

Also, does anyone know if there are any special precautions I have to take when traveling with insulin? I'm a type 1 diabetic.

If you're going for a week or longer, I'd advise 3 days in Dubai then hopping on a bus and going over to Muscat, Oman for 2-3 days.

As far as Dubai goes, it's shopping. The gold souk is in the "old" part of the city. The history museum is pretty interesting since you can see the quick development of the city. I'd also advise taking a ferry across the creek and walking along it to check out all the dhows loaded with all kinds of crap. Don't remember the cost of the ferry, but it is pretty cheap (under a buck, probably under 50 cents).

It may be crazy, but I'm only there for 3 days. How long does it take to get to Oman? Is it worth visiting?

It takes 6 hours to get to Muscat from Dubai on the bus. Is it worth visiting? I don't know what you're interested in. I can say this much: it is more Arab than Dubai. It's got good infrastructure and is a pretty laidback place.

Since your trip is only 3 days though, it wouldn't make much sense to go there.

I paid about $900 for roundtrip, direct to Abu Dhabi from Incheon. Etihad Airlines has a shuttle bus that goes to Dubai from Abu Dhabi. Takes 90 minutes.

I think I saw flights that were around $700, but that was with a stop in China- no thanks.

Dubai is looking like a very interesting place to go and visit from reports I've read. That revolving tower they've built and that was partly manufactured in Italy looks fantastic.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the dune bashing trips!! I did one of those with a friend in Dubai and it was hilarious and amazing....WELL worth the money.

If you get motion-sickness however I do not recommend it (one guy in our vehicle upchucked about 6 times). It is more intense than a roller coaster, but you get some incredible views of the desert and they stop a few times to take photos and let you catch your breath.

They have a variety of tours....only dune bashing, dune bashing and BBQ, belly-dancing show, or an overnight trip. I wouldn't do an overnight trip as it may be chilly at night and a short day trip is enough.

Out of everything I did in Dubai, I'd say that was the most memorable and funnest.

Haha, I would definitely be the one puking. I looked into those desert safaris and they look amazing, but less predictable and longer in duration than rollercoasters (which I can handle fine). I'll settle for the beach Smile
