Hi there!

I am an Northern Irish girl moving to Bucheon at end of february to work at a elementary school. I was wondering if any of you guys could tell me a little bit about the area. Is it a good location for going out? Do the people who live there travel into Seoul frequently - is it convenient? And are there any gyms near by the with classes in english. Also - before I come is there anything that I should bring with me that I might overlook (british people may be best at helping with this one...)!

Thanks a lot everyone Smilex

Welcome! I've lived here for 2.5 years. It's a nice area with a decent foreigner population and a couple of places to go out. Seoul is a 40 minute subway ride away, cheap and easy to get to. I doubt any gym classes are in English, but there are a lot of nice gyms.

look up www.eatyourkimchi.com they are in Bucheon too and have a few videos on the city as well as excellent teaching resources.

We just see each other. The bars are big hang out places. The area by the Hyundai Department store has a huge population of foreigners. The Park and Rhythm and Booze are the major hangout bars. I met a good group of friends at the English Church I go to. It is really easy to get plugged in to a group of friends because we all know what its like to be new here.

Thanks fugitive chicken for the kind words Very Happy

Bucheon's totally rocking. It's not as busy as Seoul, but it's got a great community and is really developed and developing, but it's still really close to Seoul. Hop on a bus and - with no traffic - you're in Seoul in 15 minutes.

And, yeah, foreigners just see each other everywhere. The two bars mentioned are loaded with them on the weekends. I see them a lot at coffee shops as well, like Caf Lua or Coffee Kitchen.

Bucheon is a nice area. I didn't know about the Bucheon gatherings when I was living there though. I guess you have to go to Songnae station and take a bus or taxi to Hyundai Department store.

fugitive chicken, would you have any information on the English service(s)? Does the church have a website? I'm not in Korea yet, but I will be in a month or two and Bucheon will be relatively close to my location, so I'm starting to do some research into churches ahead of time.

Oh, and appletarty, definitely visit the http://www.eatyourkimchi.com website, if a second opinion helps motivate you to check it out! Awesome stuff, and several videos are Bucheon-specific (as previously mentioned) plus what to pack, how to make stuff work, etc. Smile
