Thanks, good luck to you as well. My effort is going well so far: its looking quite serious now, haven't smoked for about 36 hours. I find using the patches takes the edge off the craving quite well, I've bought patches for a week and want to stop them after that time.. Also I've started at the gym and am drinking a litre of water every day to wash out my system. I think my body's in shock, still. But I already feel better!

I tried the patches and they were great during the day but for some reason they gave me very vivid nightmares when I was sleeping. Trouble was tho' if I didn't use them during the night I woke next morning with a massive nicotine craving.

This time I think I'll try 'Zyban' the anti-smoking drug.

God help me if I have to rely on willpower! Sad

Keep us up to date on how you're getting on.

Well I had been smoking "One" cigarettes for the previous 3 months- which were basically like smoking air, only 1 mg per cigarette. My patches now are equivalent to 10 mg a day..., so far i haven't had nightmares.
I've contracted cold symptoms now pretty severely, as a reaction to quitting, i guess. I quit once before, and the real craving set in about 3 weeks after stopping, I'm bracing myself.
I think suddenly starting on some strenuous gym training has helped- its decoyed the shock of quitting, to the shock of using muscles all of a sudden...

re: patches at night: I've found it pretty hard to sleep with a patch on, unless i'm really exhausted. I take mine off about an hour before going to bed.

Pubs are for vices. If you don't want to drink, don't go to a damn pub. If you don't want to smoke or smell smoke, don't go to a damn pub. That's how it should be. I don't smoke but a pub that doesn't allow smoking has about as much atmosphere as a pub with bright lighting that only sells Coors Lite or some other pish. I want smoke in my pubs. I hate how all these damn pansies are slowly turning our world into a low fat version of itself.

Have to agree. I spent 4 years there and really enjoyed my time. There is a great social atmosphere there, a real energy and buzz to the place. of course there are many great countries...but Ireland stands out as having a unique happening vibe to it..great!! To be honest, the Irish are light years ahead of most other nationalities when it comes to having a good time..they don't get all weighed down by issues, they don't bother about insignificant things.
My best friends are there.

If by cold symptoms you mean coughing thats supposed to be a good sign. It means the lungs are clearing themselves out. If you have other cold symptoms be careful...pm me and I'll tell you why.

Same thing has happened me in the past but it must be psychological, the physical addiction is supposed to wear off after 3 days.

I quit before for 18 months, then another time for a year, then last year for two months and recently for a couple of weeks.

I remind myself of that old joke "It's easy to quit smoking....I do it all the time" Smile

"This time I think I'll try 'Zyban' the anti-smoking drug. "

please don't try zyban. a friend of mine died from using it in montreal about four years ago. they don't know why it works and people have been dying from it... it's better to take the patch off before you go to bed and put the new one on in the morning.

SO, I'm off the patches now...still not a single cigarette has passed my lips. The craving is pretty harsh now.
I'm looking noticeably healthier in the face now. Clearer skin... The smell of smoke on other people turns me off now, I never really noticed it before..

If you hate second hand smoke, buy your own cigarettes.
