1. How much does a Korean pay on average for an iphone? I bet they don't have to pay from 700,000 to 900,000 for one and put up with hassle. I don't need one anyways...they can keep their iphones...I just want a cute regualr phone.
2. How much are ipads here? And can us lowly E2 foreigners get an ipad without hassle?
3. At least I will be able to buy an ipod with no hassle....
4. Do kindles work here?
I hate being a lowly foreigner sometimes.....no matter how cute and girly I dress and act, I'll never be a Korean... I am starting to get bothered being out of the techie loop while watching Koreans with all their shiny toys. And I think it's funny that silly facebook is taking over stupid cyworld....Cyworld even stopped accepting American Express credit cards as a way to buy acorns or ddodori...so I haven't messed with cyworld much since they became racist of American credit cards....Tokyo accepts all kinds of credit cards everywhere by the way...noticed that when I took my vacay there....^^ And all I ever used my credit card for was acorns, since I am not into having debt.
Don't even get me started on how many sites like naver won't take foreigner ARC numbers...no wonder I am such a baby....can't do anything on my own... |

My 64 gb 3G iPad cost me ~900,000 won in Korea. I had no problem getting it, though the fellow at the shop took quite a long time setting up the data plan. I'm on an F-2, but the individual in question didn't know that, so I don't see why being on an E-2 would be restrictive. |

E-2's have a harder time going about these things (even regular phone plans) because most of those plans are on a two year scale. Since an E-2 is only a one year visa, regardless of how long you plan or promise to stay, such plans aren't for us.
You can get a normal Ipad here, not the 3G version. My wife was looking into it, but we're waiting till the new one comes out this year.
No idea about the Kindle, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't work here as long as your billing address is somewhere that Amazon services (North America, Austalia, and the UK). |

I had an awesome coupon for Pizza Hut, but I was unable to use it because I am not Korean. 9 months from now, I will be in the US, and will use any coupon I want. Also, I still won't be Korean. |

Not sure the exact details, but a bunch of friends have recently gotten iphones under their own names. I heard they just made it easier for us to sign up for 2 year contracts. |

1. don't know. probably not much. but if you don't want one anyway I don't know why you're asking..
2. yes you can...
3. Read this for info on getting Ipad's: http://gwangjublog.com/1102
4. Yes, Kindle's work here. Do you mean the 3G network? I've read it's not that fast here, and in my opinion, it's not really needed, unless maybe you travel A LOT. The Wi-fi only one is a better deal to me, and mine works fine. |

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that KT has new policies that allow "lowly foreigners" to get iPhones at the same price as Koreans, yes I'm talking those awesome subsidized deals that allow you to pay less than 814,000 (16GB iPhone 4) or 946,000 (32GB iPhone 4)
In fact you can get a 16GB for free (if you keep your contract for 2 years) if you sign up for the 95,000 per month plan.
Please do more research before coming in here perpetuating false information. |

My wife was on a dependent pass. She could get a 2 year contract on a Galaxy Phone. The requirements are a visa > 3 months (not 2 years) and a valid credit card. I have a credit card so we got it easily.
As someone pointed, 1 year visa on E2 is no more a problem. But, I am not sure if they will require a credit card or not. I think a CC will ensure that they dont get cheated if someone leaves or does not renew the ARC.
But I am not sure about the credit card requirement. |

Sure you can.
This is the 4th or 5th post it seems that I've seen from you carrying on about this.
Every foreigner out there can get an iphone on contract. Tons of people on the forum have them.

It's 6 months and a credit card, certain visas are excepted from that requirement and only require 3 months and there is no CC requirement for them. |

Thanks...I saw this link and it said 6 months, but no credit card equals 740,000 paid upfront...ouch^^ That seems a bit much for a phone, even if it does all this stuff...plus, a monthly fee for 200 minutes which is the lowest...I'm not popular enough to need 200 minutes of talk and text time in Korea, so I'll probably stick with a regular cute slide phone...I just need a monthly plan taken from my bank account with simple calls and texts...I just want to say bye bye to prepaid crap phones. |

In the case of some "cute slide phones" there isn't a whole lot of price difference. Some of those "regular" phones can be anywhere from 400,000 to 600,000 won anyways. Of course, with the subsidized deals..that means about zip, but in a general sense..it's not too far off from the iPhone.
Also, why would you complain about not being able to get an iPhone if you don't really want/need one? |

Well, I really don't know what I should do. I mean, I was planning to buy an ipod, but by the time I buy a new regular phone and an ipod, I am going to end up having about the same amount as an iphone tied up in two things. Plus, someone I know wants one because she said you can use Skype on an iphone. But I REALLy don't want to blow 740,000...that's a chunk of money...oh what to do...what to do...and my prepaid phone is going to die by the end of this month and no one will recharge it...so I don't what I should do this week...and I don't want to run all the way to Itaewon to the global KT center...couldn't I just go to any KT??? Plus, I am no tech savvy genius...what if I can't figure out how to use an iphone??? I feel like such a tech dummy. Why didn't I become a tech geek instead of majoring in psychology??? |
