This thread is going places. That "VERY COLD" guy sounds hilarious. I can't wait to meet some interesting people even if they're weird/racist/homeless. I hope I won't be in the bad part of the Suwon station area, but I guess I'll have to see.

That's a joke. I'm a small, dark-skinned guy who has spent a lot of time around Suwon station at all hours of day and night (a few times waiting for the first subway train at 5 am). There are no more racist weirdos than there are in the train stations of any other city with a million people.

Half the stuff you read on these boards is because someone once said that baselessly, others read it, assumed it was true and decided to start saying it all the time.

There are some places around Suwon station that are dull neighbourhoods, but nothing to worry about.

Good to know. Yeah, this place can get pretty negative sometimes. I like to think that there's quite a few people on this forum that can't adjust to their new country, so they sit inside their apartment and angrily type how they want to go home... but who knows...

Dude, Suwon is a cool place to live. The station area is a bit dirty but so is korea for the most part That being said there are good restaurants and for all the red light bashing...Ive seen loads of white guys stumbling through. Also, there is a line of Soju tents which are a load of fun in warm weather.

The bars around the station are ok, Id go there once a month for a change of pace from my humbler surroundings. Also, the station itself is nice and has a CGV (movie theater), shopping, an arcade, an a few decent restaurants.

Youngtong is a nice area but so is Buk Suwon (loads of teachers) and Insadong (loads of teachers). The foreign community is pretty cool and clicke but easy to get in with. I lived there and would only go to Seoul once a month. You should be fine. While some places are better than Suwon there are many, many places worse.

I have been living in Suwon for about 4 years. I've never lived near Suwon Station, but have lived in Yong-tong, Ingye-dong, Seryu-dong and now Chun Chun-dong. Each has their good and bad points. Personally, I like Ingye-dong. Ingye is the business district and has a lot of decent shopping, bars, restaurants and coffee shops.

I appreciate all the responses. After I sent my documents to South Korea by employer got in contact with me again and told me he wants to start me in April instead of right now. So now I might pull out of the job. Kind of sucks because Suwon was sounding really good.
