So, I got a cavity filled a few months ago and recently the filling came out and the next day the tooth cracked and a piece of it came off. With the hole from the cavity and the piece missing it's not possible to just fix it up with another filling, so I need to get a crown.

The first dentist that I went to said that he only does gold crowns. No ceramic or "silver/chrome" (or whatever that non-gold metal is). So I went to another place. They had the choice between gold, "chrome" and ceramic. Since it's a molar, the dentist recommended gold. The reason that he gave is that it's a bit softer than the other metal so it has less chance of damaging the tooth opposite it. I don't see how that's a problem becaues the tooth opposite already has a crown of its own. I also don't see how a "gold" tooth would be that much softer because it's not like it's pure 24 karat anyway. Since it's a molar, I really don't care how it looks because no one's every going to see it anyway.

But whatever... the "chrome" crowns are 250,000 Won and the gold ones are 400,000 Won. A Korean guy I know said that 400k sounded like WAY too much and he got his done for 200,000 Won --- BUT that was 6 years ago.

So, what I'm wondering about is how much other people have paid for crowns in the last year or so - in Korea obviously.
1. How much did you pay for a crown completly covering the top of the tooth?
2. What kind of tooth was it? (molar? incisor?)
3. What kind of material was it made from? (gold? ceramic? chrome?)

Thanks for any feedback. I have some time to decide on the crown because I need to make a couple more weekly visits for them them to finish doing a root canal. After that's done, then I can get a crown put on the tooth.

I've had 2 crowns done here in Korea

(childhood neglect of brushing discipline coming back to bite my ass in full adulthood)

both full rear molars

I never even remotely considered putting anything metallic looking my mouth (I don't care that it's harder and it'll last longer). I'll leave gold teeth to rapper types and really old people.

so.. we're talking about ceramic crowns.

My first one 2 years ago was 320K, when I paid they actually have me 20K back

Several months ago, I had another one done and the price had gone up to 360K and they took all of it Smile

still beats the 750USD or 1000 that I'd be getting reamed for in the home of the brave and the land of the free.

I just got quoted 350,000 for a silver crown and I think 450,000 for a gold crown. Sounds about right. Mind if I ask where you went and if you'd report back on the experience?

I had a porcelain fused metal crown on a molar and I paid 500,000. It's a "white tooth" but on the back of the "tooth" you can see some metal at the edge near the gumline. There was also the root canal that went along with it, but that was mostly covered by the National Healthcare Plan, so that only set me back around 15,000. I probably could have gotten it cheaper it seems, but I really like my dentist.
