"The ministry will announce a revised law on immigration control that requires those suspected of drug use to undergo two tests before employment as English teachers on the E-2 visa. The law will take effect from Feb. 1"
How on earth are they going to suspect someone of drug use before employment begins?? The mind boggles... |

I believe that means if a test is failed during the visa process (therefore before employment begins).
From the blog:
The ministry will test for methamphetamine, cocaine, opium and marijuana. If the second test is positive, issuance or extension of a visa will be denied.

If the government REALLY wanted the teaching community to panic, they'd give us all hair tests! |

Uhm... actually this is incorrect.
Korea will not fly us here just for the drug test. Usually we are issued a visa then we are given a drug test, then an ARC. They also don't take the word of doctors from our home country (if we do get a drug test there). |

I think it might be aimed primarily at teachers extending their visas who are suspected of drug use while on their previous visa. Maybe this would allow them to be tested without the "reasonable suspicion" required for a police mandated test.
I'm still scratching my head over:
