So, more of the run around. I took my scanned printout of the photocopy of my degree that was verified by the consulate in Toronto back in 2003. I also took in my original degree to show the Immi guy it was all legit, along with an old, albiet opened, transcript.
He was quite perplexed, but polite. I waited about 20 minutes before he said simply that it was too old and was originally used for a different E-2 visa. He said it had to be as recent as 6 months to be valid. I noted that nothing would change from 2003 to 2011 to 2056 as far as my BA was concerned. He was in agreement, but countered that the law has been changed and it was no good. I then mentioned the process my poor mother would have to complete on my behalf to get what would amount to the exact same paper the guy was already holding (only in colour).
He said (and I quote), "there are many problems this year. Bring this copy back when you renew. We will give you "a chance". But next year, for 2012, you have to make new document to be sure. Only 1 chance, not 2 chance."
I took this to mean that if renewing, anything could happen. By law, which he assured me will be in place, you should have your FBI or RCMP check, and your degree verified. But if you are renewing, not changing your visa in any way, have shaved that day (if you're a guy) and the Immi guy is in a good mood, you may be able to get through on your current documents. I wont take that chance though. I have sent off for the RCMP check, and when asked the guy said, "we will give more time, but you come back later and show the document". |

| If you can go before the end of December then you should be ok. You can go 2 months before your visa expires. My visa expires Feb 18 so I went today to the immigration in Daejeon and all I needed was my new contract, passport, ARC card and health check, and the money of course. I was told though that if I had waited until after Jan 1, I would have needed my apostilled degree and national CRC. |

Will this be the final last time they need it verifying?
Or will they demand it again a year later?

You guys are lucky. You're getting a waiver- extra time to get your docs together. I was not so fortunate back in early September. |

Is 'health check' just the 'Health Statement' paper document for E2 holders where you have to identify if have any infectious disease or taken drugs or been addicted to alcohol, stuff like that? |

| You get the health check done at a hospital. They do blood and urine tests to check for drug use, HIV etc, and they do all the standard health checks like blood pressure, height, weight etc. Pretty easy. It usually takes about 3 days to get the results back. |

Regarding the RCMP check if you're in Korea:
When I was applying for my first E2 visa (outside of Canada) I went through the Winnipeg Police Service website (after much RCMP runaround about fingerprints etc.) and got a record check quite quickly. Less than two weeks. I had it sent to my brother who took it to the Korean consulate in Vancouver but they wouldn't stamp it because I am a BC resident. He then took it to the local RCMP office and they switched it for him into a legit RCMP check. Basically, it was much faster than dealing with all the RCMP bs and I still wound up with the CRC I needed.
If you don't have 4 months to wait this might be worth trying. |

| Can you confirm that the CBC now has to be verified IN CANADA and no longer at the Canadian Embassy in Seoul? |
