Samsung's Nexus S to Heat Up Smartphone Market Here Next Month
Samsung Electronics will release the Nexus S, the world's first Android 2.3-powered smartphone, here next month through SK Telecom, which said Sunday that it is in the final stage of testing the new device on its network.

hello everyone ,
i saw this quite interesting thread and thought that maybe my question could fit well in here for other people with the same problem as mine.
im just spending some weeks here in Korea mainly for "holidays", we could say.
i thought that by coming here i could have done some serious shopping deal and in particular of korean android smartphone purchases, but then I read this: http://www.korea4expats.com/article-cell-mobile-smart-phones-korea.html
so, since the situation looks tragic, do you guys know if there is a workaround or any kind of trick in order to be able to pay full price of an LG or samsung or whatever smartphone without being nagged about not being korean, not having a 2years visa or other stupid bureaucracy like that?
it really sounds like buying a phone here is the hardest thing in the world.
thank you for any help you'll be willing to give me ! |

To be honest the article on that page seems to be highly out of date and doesn't include any of the changes made last year. You can go to KT with any visa and meeting a couple conditions get a phone. |

You won't need any sort of 2 year visa or contract if you are really willing to pay full price (which can be as high as 1 million won or more for the top of the line phones). The only question is why you want to do this. I don't know where you are from, but LG and Samsung phones are much less expensive in Europe/North America than they are in Korea. If you're only here on holiday for a few weeks you're probably better off buying at home. |

well i don't know, i went by some kind of logic: domestic goods are usually less expensive in their original country than when exported.
of course i don't even know local prices so I cant really tell but i thought this was what happened here as well, at least compared to the crazy EU prices. if here its even worse then I dont wanna imagine how much those phones cost here.. |

Yeah, I found that one when I was trying to figure out about "internet pass-through". It's awesome! Still trying out a couple more things (which keeps me really late at night). I do have some small issues, though. T9 keypad is nowhere (only the big and mini qwerty keyboard), and swype doesn't seem to work. The speaker isn't as good as my former smartphone too. But I guess those are ignoreable issues. |

It's on the KT brochure, you just need a Korean credit card. Go to one of the global stores.
The regular stores usually won't help you. |
