Rated "poor" with regards to deaths from stomach, liver, and lung cancer. Female life expectancies compared to world average rated good, male life expectancies rated average. This reads like a fairly straightforward condemnation of the eating, drinking, and smoking habits of middle age Korean men. |

Diabetes Mellitus being #4 does not shock me with the huge amounts of rice they eat. Basically a bowl of rice = a bowl of sugar. |

Kwangjuchicken - thats a simplistic Atkins take on the issue - but it's not even a half truth..
It seems that there are multiple risk factors and causes...

Has the consumption of rice dramatically increased in the Korean diet with the dramatic rise of diabetes in the last 20 years? No, they've always eaten a high carb - staple rice diet.
If anything if you're gonna blame diet its the consumption of animal protein and fat that has shown "remarkable change"....
