Do you think with the recent visa changes and increasing conflict with the North, that less teachers will come here?
For the year 2011 and even looking beyond, do you still think Korea will have as many teachers coming here?
I think in a few years China will be the place to teach. |

I think the Gulf holds more appeal, mainly because the pay is FAR more than the average offered in China. Aside from the NET Programmme, I wouldn't take anything offered to me in China. |

OP said a few years, not today.
And yes, I do think in about 5 years the pay will be similar in China to what it is in Korea and maybe the Middle East.
Reading comprehension is your friend. |

If you don't mind having no female companionship during your whole time teaching, then I guess the Gulf is a good deal. |

How does the visa situation compare with China?
From what I understand, Japan's visa process is much easier with less paperwork and money spent than perhaps Korea or China. |

As someone has to say every day on these boards: a good job is all relative. A job paying much over $1,000 a month? Not that easy, from what I've seen and heard.
It's kind of funny that you say you think China will be the go-to place in a few years, then start asking questions about what it's actually like in China.
Regardless, I think it's going to take China awhile to catch up, considering an "unpegged" RMB has resulted in extremely negligible appreciation over the last year.
I think Vietnam is a bit more likely to turn into the next ESL hotbed than China, considering they're already paying $1,800 a month with less visa hassle (though you do need a CELTA, generally speaking). |

Actually, the UAE and Oman aren't so bad. Dating locals is a big NO-NO, but dating other expats is fine.
Not every Gulf country is Saudi Arabia. |

Does that mean dating other expats is not fine in Saudi Arabia? That's what you seem to be implying |

Well, I am not sure if this is what he is referring to, but a while back, I read a news article about an American and a filipina who became friends in Saudia Arabia. They both went out for dinner. Then, they were promptly arrested by the religious police since they were not married and were having dinner together out in public. |

So that'd be a great excuse to avoid splashing out on expensive dates |

Is it true that hagwons are starting to close due to restrictions and after school programs? Also, I have heard there will be no more kindergarten classes because of new rules.
True? |
