|

Many of us are unsure of what we need to get a renewal visa for GEPIK schools, my Head Teacher gave me the run-down on Friday.
**Please note this was written in Korean and English, out of her official booklet**
1 Passport (no-brainer)
2 ARC (also no-brainer)
3 Health Check (didn't need this last year)
4 New contract
5 renewal form & fee (50,000W)
and... that's it!
She didn't mention the two things that caused me (and most of us here) grief, which is the apostillized Bachelor degree, and FBI criminal record check. Not that I won't bring them, but I won't hand them over unless the immi officer asks.
Has anyone here already been through the process since Jan 1st and could you shed some light on this situation? Will I be in for a surprise on renewal day?
Hope this helps you GEPIKers staying at your school! |

I just renewed with SMOE, so it might be a bit different, but I had to go to the Incheon Immigration Office (address in Incheon). Is Incheon part of GEPIK?
Anyway, I was there about two weeks ago, and the fee was only 30,000 (50,000 was for the multiple entrance visa, but that's not necessary anymore). Also, they didn't ask for the health check, but I had to submit a health check to SMOE before I was issued a new contract. Nothing was said about the FBI check or new Apostilled degree. |

Currently, 7 things are needed for renewal at the same school/hagwaon:
ARC
passport
new contract with new end date shown
letter of guarantee from the school (sponsorship form)
copy of the school's business registration
application form duly filled in and signed by you
application fee (30k won for extension of status of sojourn).
IF you are required to submit new appostilled documents (not everyone does) then you (or the agent who goes to Kimmi on your behalf) will be required to sign a document that says you have been made aware that you need to submit them and that the next time you do anything to change your status you will supply them or lose your status.

Any idea how long this will stand?
And while I'm at it, what's the soonest you can renew before your contract is up? |

It will stand until Jan 1, 2012. I called immigration. This is only for renewals at the same school, of course. |

It will stand until Jan 1, 2012 after which time you will need to have submitted said documents.
You can renew up to 60 days prior to your ARC expiry.

So, say I renew in August 2011 two things could happen:
1. Immi asks me for the documents, and I don't have them so they make me sign a document ackowledging that they (are/will be?) required.
Will they then be required when I extend next, hypothetically August 2012, or will I need to submit them by Jan. 1 2012?
2. I am not asked for the documents and not asked to sign anything. I would then still be required to submit the new documents by the next time I renew, Aug 2012? |

1. When you extend in August, 2012.
2. See 1. 1 will happen. |

This is good news. Re-sign and no new documents. I like this.
Because you never know. Kimmi could ask for different things in 2012. |

The only problem is that some schools don't tell you if you'll be renewed until the last minute. My school/district let me know 2.5 weeks before my contract was up. Ugh. I'm getting the documents ASAP. |

Are you positive that you can't delay submitting the documents until 2012 if you get your visa transferred/extended over to the new school? I was told this by two different immigration officials on two occasions, two different offices, on two different dates. |

I'm not positive. I'd start the process, just in case, either way. You may not have a new job lined up in time, and may not be able to simply transfer it over. Better to be prepared. |
